Huh. I guess I'm a level 40 on the isotropish leaderboard. I don't think I ever broke 36 when isotropic was up, but I have played a lot since then. Of course, I only have 50 Pro games under my belt according to the board, so my 3σ is about twice as high as everyone else at that level.

Been a huge Dominion fan for years and love this forum.  However other then this recent goko dom I haven't posted very much.

Hopefully I stay above the 5000 threshold so I can play a lot more with all you guys. (I see a lot of +5000 games in outpost)

After a longish break from Dominion followed by lots of bad luck and playing in a bad mood, I'm finally back in the 5300+ range that I've been requiring from my opponents! Yay!

Started playing dominon online again today and yesterday, and gained 3000 rating points.... 3200 --> 6200. By far the highest I've been, but I dunno how long that will last. The isotropish leaderboard still has me fairly low though (lvl 21), it's much less willing to let my rating go up quickly.

In which I auto-scrying pool because always buy scrying pool, while my opponent goes jack-counterfeit BM. My opponent ends up getting 6 provinces in 14 turns, which shocked me, though he said that counterfeit-jack was just really good. It probably is. I had to get counterfeits to trash coppers and a jack to trash estates too, which made my scrying pools sort of weak. I started kicking myself for not actually really looking at the board and realizing that there was no village, only trashing that forces you to gain treasures, and only counterfeit for +buy. However I had nothing to fear as I could just get more counterfeits to eventually play 7 counterfeits all on each other on turn 15 with 5 highways in play. On turn 13 I should have gotten counterfeit over province and trashed the silver from jack, not topdecked it.

EDIT2: Now on 10 game win streak, up to #8 and level 42. I think I'm done for the day...

I think it may be slightly overinflated though, in that I've mostly been playing low-mid 5000 pro rating people. On average my record against people in the 40s is still pretty low IIRC...

I've noticed the same. It seems like everyone is rated lower than half a year ago on Goko, even the best on the leader board.

I got to 11th place in beta campaigns, which is nothing short of awesome for someone like me, currently isotropish-level 11. Like someone before me said, I use whatever metric makes me look good. However, it sure makes me want to speculate on how I can be ranked about 1000 places above my best friend, whom I play evenly against. Are there any bias in how they update the scores? For the record, I'm still not done with the campaigns, I have played the first 14 or so in each area. As long as I start with equal hands and not last in 4p with an obviously 1-player advantage game, I win almost all the games vs the bots.

I remember being almost adjacent to kilgoretrout on the leaderboard, like, years ago, on isotropic.  And I'm still adjacent to him on the leaderboard now, but we're both 45 instead of both 33.  I'm guessing neither of us have really improved, but the leaderboard is calibrated differently this time around.

He doesn't actually enjoy playing with me and had me blacklisted on isotropic, iirc.  Fortunately, with the new automatch that is totally unaffected by skill, he never has to play me now! It's a feature, not a bug.

The only difference is that there are fewer people on the leaderboard. Relative rankings should still be accurate, but the absolute level is going to depend on how many active players there are. Not everyone has played enough games on the new system to get a ranking. Adam doesn't have a ranking, I don't have a ranking, ADK doesn't have a ranking...

I'm not sure what the exact explanation is, but there is a trend where fewer total players means higher level.

Ratings inflation is expected over time due to more players, not fewer. I don't know if that's solely responsible for the big jump in levels with the 2.0 switch, but wouldn't be surprised either.

Speaking of ratings inflation, this morning I reached level 42 on the isotropish leaderboard for the first time... and after going 4-0 this evening I made it above 5000 on the Pro rating. The last time I was in the 40s, it was good enough for top 25 (back in 2011/2012, on isotropic)... maybe it's good enough for top 100 tomorrow.

Anyway, I am happy to have reached these milestones before baby arrives and makes me bad at Dominion again.

I think everybody is around 10 levels higher than on the Goko Iso board. I mean, I'm 47 now - I've never been above 33 on the old board.
It's also true for the best who are around 65 now - on the old one they would be around 55.

Hm, I stand corrected (ish). The average μ right now is close to 20 (19.90) vs. ~15 (15.05) on the Goko leaderboard (which also has more total players, 39316 vs. 24615). This won't correspond exactly with the starting parameters (which, as far as I can tell, haven't changed from the 25 ± 25 we've always had), but it definitely suggests something is different. It could be the case that having more total players pulls the overall average down - more players with few games and lower μ - but the extremes should also be less extreme with fewer players, which isn't the case (z values have actually gone up at bit at the top of the leaderboard, including hdu88's absurd μ of 80.93, z=4.17, though the most extreme value on the two leaderboards was at the bottom of Goko's).

My best guess at an explanation (if the isotropish parameters haven't changed) is that the malfunctioning matchmaking was to blame. But even that doesn't feel right.

However, I do want to brag about the fact that I've been updating the Wiki. So far, I've included small strategy synopses on Amulet, Caravan Guard, Dungeon, Gear, Guide, Distant Lands, Ratcatcher, Raze and the Page line, and I also added the existing strategy article from Coin of the Realm. I hope to visit all Adventures pages before the release of Empires, just so there will be no more Adventures pages that incorrectly say There is no strategy article for [...] yet, as Adventures is the newest expansion anymore.

The devs gave me a special build that prevents my version from crashing, so I've been doing a lot better now.

After ending my years long bot-only self-inflicted reclusion, since the beginning of april I went from iso level -8 to level 41, after a short lucky winning streak yesterday. With exams incoming, I guess this will be the peak of my Dominion career for at least the next few months.
Still, the biggest satisfaction I got from this exploit was skyrocketing up the leaderboard to level 35 in the first week or so. 
Playing against bots isn't as useless as many paint it. *gloat*

Edit: ok, let me clarify a bit here.
Often you see comments around here saying that by playing bots you won't ever become even a slightly-better-than-mediocre player, while my experience was that my bot-trained skills took me way higher than I expected (I thought I would be around 20 or so).
So, nice surprise for me here, small achievement compared to yours and to the achevements of most f:dsers.
It was a nice month, and playing with people required (and made me start to develop) a much deeper understanding of the game, which I would never acquire against bots, no argument there. Still, I thought I would share this here since I'm most likely to stop playing for a while.

I never said that bots are necessary to learn how to play, and I'm aware that there are lots of players who are much better than me, even though maybe my post didn't read that way. So, sorry for the gloating tone, but it's the attention whoring thread, after all.

Bots are a good way to learn new cards

The bots' main point of attraction for me is being able to play as slow as I wish, while having no dead times during the opponents' turn. Plus, my very first interactions with random players on iso and then on Goko had been far from positive, so I wasn't exactly eager to try that again.

Lost the GM split 8-2, but ended up winning.  Distant Lands, man.  It's better than I thought.  And Coin of the Realm.  Swamp Hag helped me too here.

EDIT: I also realized in this game that Storyteller/CotR has a synergy, because you can call the CotR on the same turn you played it.  Guess you could say the same about Black Market.

Swamp Hag sort of negates the losing Grand Market split. There's no real draw, so I'm actually surprised you won while losing the Grand Market split that badly. Distant Lands is fantastic for the price if you can get to playing them. Your opponent also didn't go for Coin of the Realm, or really hard for Swamp Hag. He blew his lead, and you exploited the crap out of it. Nice win.

Well as you pointed out after the game, me not using Duplicate with Princess was super stupid. I quite expected to win Steed as well, but the shuffles after I got Followers were pretty unkind, particularly T11, I even behaved myself and had lots of Ports.

And a pretty strong case can be made that I should have gotten Trusty Steed first anyway, Followers is more of a self-junker on this board with the Moats around. You getting Followers isn't that damaging to me as you'll only play it every once in a while and I'll have lots of Moats. Steed is more helpful for getting Followers than Followers is for getting Steed. I did want that discard attack though.

I keep thinking, it has to turn around at some point... right? Sometimes I have some okay days, but then it's followed by days of even more losing. I feel like my correct rating is somewhere in 5500-6000, that's where I was before the losing streak.

After gradually climbing a little bit, I now broke my previous low record. I'm at 4560. I think I'm playing as carefully and as well as I can. I make silly mistakes sometimes, sure, but not more than my opponents. Of today's 4 games, the only one I won was when I chose the superior strategy. The others were mirrors. I generally lose mirrors. To me it seems like shuffle luck 80% of the time that happens, sometimes horrible shuffle luck.

Nobody plays optimally.  In fact, I'd argue that it's impossible to even know what is optimal on 99.99999% of kingdoms.
