Most VPs in 4 turns (again)

So, I asked this puzzle once before, but that was a year ago, there's two more sets since then, and we might be able to think of more clever solutions now. It's a tricky puzzle, but it's very easy to understand: In a solitaire game, score as many points as possible in four turns. Possession/Outpost turns count. We got marks in the quiz for each point above 11 we scored, and an extra mark for getting 13+ without Bank. Naturally, that hints at one possible solution.

The quiz setter got a score of 15. I think more is possible, but I haven't managed it.

For now I'll leave this as an open challenge: See if you can score 15 points in 4 turns, or even more. See how many ways you can do it, too!

As far as using new expansions goes, here's a way to get 13 (edit: fixed) with only Hinterlands.


On T1, spend CCCCE on a Nomad's Camp. T2, draw NC with CCEE--buy 2 Fool's Gold.

T3, draw the remaining C from your deck, shuffle, then draw CCFF. Buy a Province.
T4, draw NCCCC (that's all the rest of your coppers), buy 2 Tunnels.

+10 VP, for 13 total including starting Estates.

Thanks, didn't realize the starting points counted.

Here is a solution doing 15 total VP.


Open Council Room / Fool's Gold.

Turn 3, draw Council Room, 3 Estates, and Copper. Play Council Room to draw 4x Copper, and buy 2x FG.
Turn 4, draw remaining 2x Copper and Fool's Gold, shuffle, draw Council Room and Fool's Gold. Play CR to draw another Fool's Gold and 3x Copper, for FFFCCCCC, giving $14 and 2 buys. Buy a Colony and a Tunnel.

That's +12 VP, for 15 total.

Cellar everything draw Haggler Copper Copper Copper buy Cache (haggle whatever)
3 card left in deck
Turn 4 draw Copper Copper Copper (reshuffle) Haggler Cache
Buy Province haggle Border Village gaining a duchy

Feel like I should be able to do better

Edit:Actually I got it on turn 3 haggle an ironworks. Turn 4 draw copper copper copper Haggler ironworks. Ironworks an island for +1 action and +1 card drawing the cache. Buy province/bv/duchy. 14 VPs
guess you do have to go for the colony route

People have gotten some good solutions, CR/FG was the one I thought of to get to 15. Here are some other ways:

1: Council Room
2: Crossroads
3: Crossroads (3 estates), CR, draw deck, buy Bank
4: CR, draw 7 coppers+Bank, buy Colony+Tunnel/Island/etc.


1: Chancellor
2: Ironworks
3: Ironworks a Watchtower, Chancellor (discard), buy Throne Room
4: Draw TR/IW/W/C/C. TR-Ironworks for Coppersmith (reveal Watchtower, on deck), Island (not on deck). Play Coppersmith. Play Watchtower, drawing 4 more copper (total 6 worth $2 each). Buy Colony


The second solution there I feel can be improved, but can't work out how to do it.

Another somewhat amusing, but surprisingly competitive solution I found is:

1: Tribute
2: Estate
3: Draw TCCEE, play Tribute, discard CE, draw CC, buy Farmland, Trash Estate, gain Island
4: Draw TFCCC, play Tribute, discard IC, draw CC, buy Farmland, trash Farmland, gain Province. Total: Province+Farmland+Island+3 Estates = 13


Still, I'm convinced there might well be a way to hit 16 points or even more. Maybe these will province inspiration?

I think there's a little bug in this (that is fixable).


Let's say after the first reshuffle that your deck ordering is:
  TCCEE CE CC CCE
Then won't you draw CCE** during turn 3's clean-up phase, which makes TFCCC impossible? But if you draw TFCCE, that should still be fine, since discarding IC and drawing CC gives you +$4.

Another method for 13:

Open Tunnel/Cellar.

T3: Draw LEECT. Play Cellar, discarding everything, revealing Tunnel to gain a Gold, and draw CCCC. Buy a Baron.
T4: Draw CCE, reshuffle, draw GB. Play Baron, discarding an Estate, then buy a Farmland, remodeling Gold to a Province.

End with Province, Farmland, Tunnel, 3x Estate, for 13 points.


And a very trivial 13:

Open Coppersmith/Tunnel.
T3: Draw Coppersmith CCCC, buy a Province.
T4: Draw CCCEE, buy a Tunnel.

For Province, 2x Tunnel, 3x Estate, which is 13 points.

turn 3. hand: copper copper copper copper duchess. duchess discards a copper. buy duchy. gain duchess.

Trying out thing with Smugglers.
Most I can get is 13, in two ways:

Turn 1: Smuglers
Turn 2: Feast
Turn 3: Feast -> Duchy, CCC -> Tunnel
Turn 4: Smugly -> Duchy CCC -> Tunnel

Also
Turn 1: Smuglers
Turn 2: Throneroom
Turn 3: CCCCC -> Duchy
Turn 4: TR + Smuglers -> 2x Duchy, CC -> Estate

Still some room for improvement... One additional money to spend on either t3 or t4.
Haven't figured out (yet ?) how to use that for an additional point though.

4: Ironwork an Island, salvage Peddler, buy Colony

Play Embassy, drawing Salvager, Border Village, Haggler and 2 Coppers and discarding 3 Estates. Play Salvager, trashing Border Village. Play Haggler and 5 Coppers. Buy Colony, gaining Border Village, gaining Duchy; and Estate, gaining Copper.


I suspect going above 15 is impossible without Hinterlands cards, and I can't really see any room for improving my solution with all the current cards.

So I'm a bit late, but I've managed to get 19 using a similar method to Celestial Chameleon's second above; still, I can't shake the feeling that the buys on T3 could be used to get something even better going with Tunnel/Hamlet or Crossroads or Border Village or Remake or something.

1: $4 -> Nomad camp
2: $3 + Nomad camp -> Watchtower, Hamlet (draw e, shuffle, draw all actions and c)
3: Play Hamlet, discarding e and c, drawing c; play Nomad Camp, then Watchtower, drawing 5 c; buy Peddler, Develop, Tunnel (ee left on deck) - draw ee, shuffle, Hamlet, Peddler, Develop
4: Play Hamlet, discarding e and e, drawing Watchtower; Develop Peddler into Plat+Bank; play Watchtower, drawing Bank+Plat+4c, play 4c+Bank and buy Tunnel and Farmland, trashing Plat for Colony

Looking at ways to improve Kelume's solution, I haven't been able to beat 19, but I have been able to buy both Colony and Province on Turn 4:

Turn 1: Draw 4 Coppers and Estate. Play 4 Coppers and buy Nomad Camp, putting it on top of deck.
Turn 2: Draw Nomad Camp, 3 Coppers and Estate. Play Nomad Camp and 3 Coppers, and buy Watchtower and Hamlet.
Turn 3: Draw Estate, (reshuffle), Copper, Hamlet, Nomad Camp and Watchtower. Play Hamlet, drawing Copper and discarding Estate and Copper for +1 Action and +1 Buy. Play Nomad Camp then Watchtower, drawing 5 Coppers. Play 6 Copper, buying Crossroads, Copper and Border Village, gaining Develop.
Turn 4: Draw Estate, Estate, (reshuffle), Crossroads, Hamlet and Watchtower. Play Crossroads, drawing Develop and Border Village. Play Hamlet, drawing Nomad Camp and discarding 2 Estates for +1 Action and +1 Buy. Play Nomad Camp. Play Develop, trashing Border Village and gaining Council Room and Bank on top of deck. Play Watchtower, drawing Council Room, Bank and 4 Coppers. Play Council Room, drawing 4 Copper. Play 8 Copper and Bank (worth $9). Buy Colony and Province.


Incidentally, this also takes the record for this challenge, with $19 in play by the end of Turn 4.
