Flash Point: Fire Rescue FULL
« on: January 14, 2013, 12:30:30 pm »

RULEBOOK -- PDF

Flash Point -- Fire Rescue is a cooperative game about firefighters trying to save people from a burning house. It's my favorite coop, and I was thinking about running/playing a game of it here, if there's enough interest.

It plays 1-6 players. If the firefighters can rescue 7 of the 10 victims before the house collapses, they win! If not, they lose. The danger, of course, is the fire. The house is divided into a 6x8 grid, and each player rolls two dice at the end of their turn. The targeted space, if Safe, gains Smoke. Smoke becomes Fire, and Fire becomes an Explosion. Which is bad. Don't do that.

If people are interested, you can call this a sign-up thread? I guess you can call it one if you're not interested also, in which case you shouldn't sign up. Since I assume most people haven't played this game before, the game will be on one of the base set maps, but we can choose the difficulty, depending on how much craziness we want.

Here's How A Turn Works, Basically:

Here's The Roles Available:

Fire Crew:
1) Qvist
2) Insomniac
3) Kuildeous
4) Davio
5) Grujah
6) Tables

Full up!

I just played this over the weekend. I would definitely like to see more of it.

I don't know the difference between the simple game and advanced game, but I learned with the advanced rules and didn't think they were too bad. Difficulty was set on easy, though. I think, anyway. I know we had hazardous materials, which I suspect were added in the advanced game?

Advanced Rules adds the Hazmats, the Fire Truck and Ambulance, and the different character cards. Maybe something else too, but I've played beginner so rarely that I don't remember.

It looks like this will fill fairly quickly. Do you guys have preferences for map, difficulty, character choice/random, play order, anything? I can just randomize whatever people don't care about choosing/would rather be random.

I just want to play and learn the game. Maybe medium difficulty with otherwise random setup.

The only thing I care about is using the advanced rules since the roles are so much fun. I suspect that in the beginner game, the fire truck and ambulance don't physically need to be at the proper locations? I did like the fiddly parts of those.

I'm ambivalent on the difficulty, but I think we're all bright enough to face a medium difficulty. I won't press for it if someone wants to go easy, though. Also ambivalent on the house.

I don't know much so I'm up for whatever would probably prefer advanced to basic.

In the beginner game, the fire truck and ambulance don't exist. Victims are rescued just by getting them outside, and you can't operate the deck gun.

I feel like the beginner game is fine for people who don't play many games to get the hang of concepts like "action points", but I agree you guys can probably handle a little more than that. :P

EDIT: I can type up a rules overview if people want/need, and you can always ask questions here or in PM.

Oh man, that deck gun is awesome. It is a great equalizer when a fire rages uncontrollably. I'll rally everyone to vote for advanced just because You get to fire a big honkin' water cannon!

In all games that I saw that have "advanced" and "basic" rules, basic were just crappy variation of advanced ones.

I mean, most (all?) of people here are veteran gamers, and the game doesn't look particularly heavy at all.

But not strictly better, because the spinoff can have a different cost than the expansion.

Okay, we've six now. I'm at work currently; I'll have the board and everything prepared later this evening. Consensus is advanced rules, veteran(middle) difficulty? Anyone want to claim a specialist? (You can change in game also, at the fire truck.) should I make a new thread or port this one?

When I played, we chose roles after seeing the layout. I don't know if that's per the rules. If that is allowed, then I think we should pick roles after seeing the board. The HazMat guy may not wish to move all over the board if the materials are spread out.

If we cheated, then I guess we'll pick roles first. I'm cool with being last to pick.

No, that's correct. Choosing roles comes last (except for placing hotspots for some reason). But I'm not going to be able to set up the board until this evening, so if you guys wanted to talk about roles, it's not like you'll be legally bound by your decisions; you can re-decide after seeing the setup.

Ah, you can choose roles? That's different to the way I played it first time (where we randomised), should make things a little easier.

Looking at the rules, I guess we could go for the medium difficulty? We'll probably want the Hazmat Technician for sure if we do though.

I would think the Imaging Technician would be handy early on. Just stay in the truck and ping the house. When there are three definite victims, he can change roles (possibly to the driver). If he has leftover action, he could move the ambulance or fire truck.

At least that's what it looked like to me.

Probably should see how the house looks before we decide if the heavy should be chosen, though I haven't really seen many instances where the player of the heavy laments his choice.

Imaging Technician as a first turn can just go, ping all three, save the action. Next turn probably switch to something more useful, and start doing useful things. But it does depend on where the POIs are I think.

I was thinking if one or more of the POIs are blanks. But if all three are people, then bonus! Yeah, change roles.

In other news, I re-taught myself GIMP for the last 2 hours.

Anyone have any questions?
