In addition, you can't refuse. Your liege tells you to trade. You do it, regardless of if you want to.

But not strictly better, because the spinoff can have a different cost than the expansion.

While I think what Tables says is true, if someone stated a desire to refuse a trade I'd probably trade with someone else unless I was fairly certain they were the traitor and I knew they only had good cards.

And those trades are secret; I understand that now.

I place the Mercenaries on the Saxon side.



My first inclination is to draw three more cards, but I'd like to open the discussion for a little bit. So here's what we have:

Grail – I have nothing for this. I wouldn’t mind hopping in on the quest to reap a reward, but that wouldn't be this turn, and I'm sitting in a good position already.
Saxon/Pict – I am fully capable of taking on either of these by myself, as long as I don't get overwhelmed. Another knight could join me to speed things along and/or share the reward.
Excalibur – I don't have many weak cards. The ones I do have would be used against the Saxons or Picts.
Black Knight – I have cards that can finish this quest, but they're not the best cards. Also, I stand a really good chance of losing before I can play enough cards.
Dragon – I have most of the cards that can lead us to the highest score, though we still don't know if we have the means between us to actually reach that score. I could easily start us on the path to defeating the dragon, but that will compromise my ability to fight the Saxons/Picts.

Actually, seeing those actions laid out like that, I'm no longer so inclined to draw cards. I mean, hey, three cards are nice, especially if I can draw a Fight 5, but a fistful of cards does no good if I don't play them. The Grail quest is nearing completion, and Palamedes is doing his best to ensure that Excalibur is not lost.

Thoughts from my esteemed colleagues? Go fishing for a Fight 5 or two, or begin a quest?

There are black cards that force either everyone to do something unpleasant, or one volunteer to discard 3 cards. As the strongest drawer, it does make sense for him to draw a bit if he has nothing useful.

That said, he DOES have something useful, so it would probably be best to start on a quest. Or... maybe take some cards and head to the dragon next turn? I'm not sure I like splitting our efforts so much, though. Perhaps heading to Saxons would be a good plan.

Would the Picts be better than the Saxons?

That said I think it's better that he start the quest. I've got a fair amount of garbage that I could discard if we needed to get rid of three cards. I was going to put them towards Excalibur eventually, but that is a ways off.

If we keep on with this luck of no Despair cards we could beat the Grail quest which would be stupendous. *knock on wood*

I went with that card because I suspect others can fill in for the lower bound. Not willing to play higher until I know that we have enough to finish it. Is anyone else able to contribute on that end?

Probably not so much - we don't really want to complete Grail this early, I think, as siege engines. Can you help with Excalibur? Maybe the dragon?
