So it's 15.2 celsius (59 fahrenheit for those of you who don't know the metric system, as a side note you should learn it)  INSIDE here, don't even want to think what it's like outside (probably not that cold, no idea why they aren't heating this place at all).

It's about 12 degrees in my flat, old building. And the heating sucks!

I hate winter, it's already dark when I go to and leave work and I generally get very moody and depressed. Alleviated slightly by Christmas, but terrible come jan

What? All of you are crazy.  Winter is the very best season.  I've been mostly miserable since moving to Atlanta, where it gets down to maybe 40 F minimum (5 C, or so) and everybody starts breaking out the huge jackets/hats/gloves etc.  It's absurd.

I want to be able to feel the coldness in my bones when i go outside.

Yeah, this is spot on with how I feel. Cold is terrible unless it brings snow, and then it's all worth it.

In my part of the US it was pretty warm until a few days ago, when the temp dropped something like thirty or forty degrees. I didn't check the weather in the morning and was stuck in a t-shirt all day. :(

I am so much more comfortable in really cold than really hot weather. You can always put on another layer. You can only be so naked.

You guys have it all wrong. Summer ≥ Spring > Fall >> Winter. If I can't walk outside in shorts and a t-shirt, something is wrong.

I agree with you on the general principle (especially sleeping is very painful when it's really hot, one might even say high temperatures make me insomniac), at the moment I have 4 pairs of socks on (3 woollen one normal) and my toes still feel cold.. But yeah, it's mostly my own fault. Things to do tomorrow: call the janitor and ask him to make it warmer in here.

I like the warmth of summer.

Still, winter is thé time for playing boardgames with the family.... :D

So it's 15.2 celsius (59 fahrenheit for those of you who don't know the metric system, as a side note you should learn it)  INSIDE here, don't even want to think what it's like outside (probably not that cold, no idea why they aren't heating this place at all).

WINTER, SUCKITUDE. DISCUSS.

Wait, you consider 15.2 C to be COLD?

Thats a nice mild temperature for those of us in the UK.

Still, at least I'm not somewhere really cold, with proper snow and ice and stuff in October.

We've managed to get a little bit of warmth inside now, but it was seriously down to like 10°C a few days ago. And that's indoors. Outdoors it's around 0°c and it's getting colder.

We had an obscenely mild winter last year. There were no serious snows, and the very few times that it dusted, it didn't stay cold long for long. While the upcoming winter may or may not be worse than usual (Midwest US, so it can get nasty), the fact that people haven't been accustomed to a real winter in 2 years is probably going to screw us up.

Winter == Summer > Fall==Spring.

Extremes or nothing, Would strictly prefer winter for the reason that you can put on more layers and still be comfortable while the same is not true in summer but when it's nice and hot you can hit the river and there is little better than swimming in a river on a hot day (on par with playing in the snow)

Winter is SOOO much better than Summer. Sitting by the fireplace all wrapped up with your honey watching the snow fall outside... It's paradise. Completely beats spending the day at the beach in the sun and suits (or, given preference, lack thereof).

Really though, it's the one thing I hate most about living on the West Coast. I MISS the Winters in Chicago. It was hands down, far and away the best time of the year.

(The biggest caveat to these feelings is if you have to drive to work. Driving in snow and ice sucks. It's not fun, and it's not safe.)

I find it funny that we're talking about winter when there's a tropical storm occurring outside my house right now.

...well, extratropical, but still. Anyone getting hit by snow from this thing yet?

All of the seasons have their perks; I'm in a location where I experience extreme temperatures in both summer and winter, which is a nice contrast. I've gotten so used to it that I don't think I can ever move from here in NJ >_<

Driving in snow/ice though != fun.

The best thing about winter is obviously that you have a great excuse to stay inside and play board games. In the summer people think I'm lame for wanting to play instead of going out to enjoy the awesome weather. :P

Fall > Winter > Summer >>>>>> Spring.

This may have something to do with seasonal allergies.

If you have to heat your house, I think you'll find that summer >> winter by a large margin.

Winter is SOOO much better than Summer. Sitting by the fireplace all wrapped up with your honey watching the snow fall outside... It's paradise. Completely beats spending the day at the beach in the sun and suits (or, given preference, lack thereof).

If you have to heat your house, I think you'll find that summer >> winter by a large margin.

Nothing better than coming home out of the frosty, freezing cold, absolutely frozen to the bone (and wet to boot), and walking through the front door into a warm, cozy interior. Stripping down the layers and layers of clothes, making a hot cup of tea, and letting out a long sigh of contentment.

Bliss.

Faust has also been incredibly stubborn this game. In other news, it's hot in the summer, and water falls from the sky when it rains.

Advantage of winter over summer: warm beds on cold nights are wonderful, but there is no such thing as a cold bed on a warm night.

There is no ideal inside temperature during winter. It's always too cold, like when the heat is on too low, or too hot, like when the heat is on too high (or you just walk into the house after having 4 layers on plus a scarf and you immediately start sweating).

Winter is the worst.

I disagree.  There is objectively a truly ideal temperature in winter, and that is when you are in a warm bed.  (Getting out of that warm bed ... now that is the worst part about winter, for sure.)

I respectfully submit that if you are taking a merely WARM shower then it is not truly winter where you are.

I hope you're all enjoying your winter!

It's currently 41 degrees C (106 degrees F) in Melbourne. That's bloody hot. Luckily I can come home to an air conditioned house.

Agreed.  As someone who has lived my entire life in West Michigan, I question my inmost being each year and ask myself the same question.  Why the (Insert expletive of choice here) am I living in the godforsaken state of cold?  And then of course I finally have a chance to leave, and I go to grad school at the U of M.

East Michigan ain't much better! But yes. I wish I could live in Michigan during summer, and an island along the Equator the rest of the year. Actually, I'll just take the island year-round.

Yes, to get 5 stars you have to play at least 3 games of forum mafia...

Or, send a Cheque in a SAE envelope to Theory, Care of New York, America.

And winters been really mild here, its January and its nearly double Celsius figures!

The forum mafia part is incorrect, but I do accept cheques, and I do get mail addressed to "theory, care of New York, America"

If I lived in someplace like Alaska, a 5 degree low wouldn't be that big of a deal.

Yeah, Seattle takes a while to come out of its wintertime mistfest.  I'm told that this year, summer is scheduled for August 18th and 19th, so plan accordingly.

We've got a lot of snow around where I am. Peaked at about 4-5 inches, I think, which in UK snow terms is an unimaginably horrific amount. Just about every department at university shut down lectures on Friday and again on Monday. Well, all of them except the Maths department. And I'm a mathematician. Sad times.

I like snow, but what I dislike is the layer of ice it leaves. Almost slipped over about 3-4 times on the walk in today alone.

Yep, thats the annoying thing. Down south it has not snowed for 4 days, but because the temperature is below freezing, none of it has gone away, thus compacting down into ice and slush.
Ugh

Except I have to get to Manchester tomorrow!

It's actually 51 degrees Fahrenheit now and will be in the 60s tomorrow. I'll take what I get, because it's supposed to snow this weekend.

The benefit to living in the Midwest: You don't have to wait long to get the weather you hate.

We got 3 more inches today...and it's still coming down.  I hate everything about this extended winter.
