Mint with Talisman and cost reduction

I played a game on goko today where this came up involving highway.  I assumed that I would be able to choose whether Mint or talisman resolved first, because of simultaneous stuff and such (very scientific description :) ) and if the talisman is trashed its on buy does not resolve.  Is this analysis correct?  Would the talisman resolve even if it was trashed?

When I bought Mint, goko gave me no choice and only one mint was gained, regardless of the talisman and I was given no choice.  I this correct rule wise, although it does not give a choice, unless talisman can activate from the trash in which case it is incorrect.

Thanks in advance!

Buying happens before gaining. So the on-buy effect from mint does happen first, meaning there is no talisman in play for its on-gain effect.

I'm not sure jonts26. Both effects have an "on-buy" trigger, so I'm pretty certain that you may choose the order of resolving. Talisman isn't in play anymore if it's in the trash. So you either get one or two Mints, while your Talisman gets trashed either way. Goko doesn't really implement stuff where you choose the order, so yeah, you might consider this a bug. It basically chose for you one of the two possible outcomes.

Oh, yeah, I guess talisman is on-buy. So yep, you are right. You should be able to choose.

So, I was sitting there, thinking, "How does Mine conflict with Talisman?  Maybe you played it with a Black Market?  Hmm..."

It wasn't until reading the first post several times through I realized.

Yes.  That did happen, I'm not making a joke.

Seriously.

And here I spent at least two minutes wondering what makes the interaction between Mint and Talisman so confusing to you and what BM has to do with it before reading the rest of your post. No kidding.

IIRC, Goko is aware that some of the on-buy effects should let you make a choice of ordering of effects, but they explicitly decided not to because it was too difficult for them to code.

Well, you could program it, but you need to program very defensively.
In this case, if you choose one effect first, the other doesn't happen anymore.

So you have to check every time if an effect can still occur.

Oh yeah, you could definitely program it. I was just saying that Goko knows this isn't strictly by the rules, but for whatever reason decided not to do it.

There's a difference between what YOU can program and what GOKO can program.

Where was this made explicit?

Because "We can't be bothered to actually put in the rules" is a pretty lame thing to do.

Maybe they just started with wrong assumptions that ended up too hard to go back and fix.
That sounds like something they would do.

Dominion can be tricky to program. I once started on writing a sim and tried to be all nice and put things in their own classes and only give cards access to whatever they specifically needed. That's nice for simple cards like Smithy, but in the end I caved and was like: "Fuck it, here's the entire gamestate, do whatever you like".

I think it's easier to let cards just deal with the entire gamestate even though they themselves are part of it.
