Age II was pretty dull for me. My card play was pretty obvious for every card in the second half.

Wow, second again, I have a really good record in forum 7 Wonders. liopoil had some really good Guild luck, but played really well this game nevertheless. Qvist, something that eHalc suggested you doing in the QT was passing off the Builder's Guild to nkirbit, which he would have more than likely built, and building the Palace in its place. That way, your third wonder stage became more useful.

I did get super-lucky with the guilds that last age. I do think that, if I hadn't gotten the guilds, I might've been able to get the pantheon and/or the palace. And since there were 3 guilds that were very good for me, I had a good chance of getting at least 1. 3 is insane though.

I think establishing a good lead in military early helped a lot.

The third stage of Olympia isn't that good, 7VP is just way better most of the times, I assume. I built it anyway because of Arena and Builder's Guild. Thanks TA for moderating.

Qvist, something that eHalc suggested you doing in the QT was passing off the Builder's Guild to nkirbit, which he would have more than likely built, and building the Palace in its place. That way, your third wonder stage became more useful.

I considered that, but I didn't want to play risky, but I guess, that would have been better, yeah.

I did get super-lucky with the guilds that last age. I do think that, if I hadn't gotten the guilds, I might've been able to get the pantheon and/or the palace. And since there were 3 guilds that were very good for me, I had a good chance of getting at least 1. 3 is insane though.

I think establishing a good lead in military early helped a lot.

It helped that Arche didn't fight you early.  Come on Rhodes, don't let them push you around! ;)

He had a town hall. I wasn't doing point calculations as I was going around, so I thought he may have been able to get closer to Lio, and I thought Nkirbit had more points than he did, but Lio had a pretty commanding lead.

Well I got the Marketplace early and both of my neighbors had the manufactured goods, so I thought I could do both science and military, but then just snag the military points through Laboratory and stuff. liopoil was able to build the majority of them, but I got some. I was planning on sealing the deal in the last age through my Wonder, but I got passed enough Science to heavily focus on it more.

playing next to two people who both went for science really helped - they never stole my stuff! And since there were 3 people who ended up going for science, they all ended up having trouble, so I didn't really need to worry about passing too many green cards.

But yeah good game everyone. My luck kind of flip-flopped throughout that game, not a good starting position for Gizah but had some good luck early, then some bad, a really bad age II, but a good age III, and it all kind of balanced out to a decent end. No guilds were really good for me, though, which was quite unfortunate. I think asides from the Builder's Guild (which is almost always 7+VPs and often 9VPs anyway), no guild was worth more than 6 VPs to me. That's a pretty nasty position to be in, and of course there was very little I could have done about it, since guilds are so dependent on your neighbours. Still, even if those Guilds were worth more sane amounts (about 7VPs each) Liopoil would have still edged ahead by 2+ points, so it's hardly like they can be blamed alone.

...spin-offs are still better for all of the previously cited reasons.
But not strictly better, because the spinoff can have a different cost than the expansion.
