This one's probably gonna be a long shot... while the game does work with fewer, we'd really want at least 10, and more like 16ish, as best I can tell. But whatever. If there's fewer people, but sufficiently interested people, then we could try that.

Two Rooms and a Boom is a party game for 6+ people of all ages. Lying encouraged.

In Two Rooms and a Boom, a social deduction, hidden roles game, there are two teams: the Red Team and the Blue Team. The Blue Team has a President. The Red Team has a Bomber. Players are equally distributed between two rooms (separate playing areas). The game consists of 5 timed rounds. At the end of each round, some players will be traded into opposing rooms. If the Red Team’s Bomber is in the same room as the President at the end of the game, then the Red Team wins. Otherwise the Blue Team wins.

One advantage is the game needs very little modding wise. We'd just need to pester someone to shuffle cards and deal them, everything else is done in threads and PMs. Player honesty is required however.
The game has some big differences from standard mafia fare. Rounds are intentionally short - 5 minutes or less when playing face to face (we'd probably go for 1 or 2 days real time). Players are allowed to reveal their roles, either privately to another player, or publicly, although it may not always be useful. On top of that, there's no real 'bad guy' team, there's two roughly equally sized teams competing, one aiming to get the bomber and president together, and the other aiming to get them apart. Other roles are possible (and may be used to make things a little more exiting, I dunno).

If you want to see the rules you can check the website: http://tworoomsandaboom.com/.

So, that's a rough description. So... are people interested?

I found the rule book.  It's kind of hilarious and/or awesome.

finally got to the end and noticed there are recommended setups.  I thought it would just be a random of all the roles and thought it'd be crazy difficult to keep track of it.

It's like Mafia except there are two teams of the same size and pretty much nobody knows who anyone else is at the start.  Players are split into two separate rooms.  As the game progresses, players will switch rooms and discover what other people are.  At the end of the game, the Blue team wants their President to be alive while the Red team wants him to be dead (probably by having their Bomber be in the same room as the President).

There are a whole bunch of different special roles that give players special abilities, extra win conditions (or lose conditions).  So it could be role madness.

How are we doing seperate rooms? Qt for each phase?  And how about talking to specific players?

Talking to specific players is easy, PMs.

As for me being in, I've been thinking about it but am not sure...  I'll be in if you need me and maybe if you don't.

Just read soem more of the rules.

You would need 2 seperate QT's for each round. And then just a controlling thread in here.

Is who's on what team public knowledge?

No, but you can colour reveal to players to show them your team.

We have enough interested people that we can probably actually make this happen. I'm tempted to say, let's mostly follow the format they use on BGG for PBF, which would basically mean:
1 day rounds (we could make this 2 days if 1 day seems too short)
One QT per room. Players aren't allowed to access the QT of the room they aren't in.
You are allowed to whisper/PM other players, but it's limited to 5 times per round, and 100 characters per whisper, and you must post in the QT that you were whispering (everyone can see this happening, after all!)
You post requests to Co-reveal or Colour reveal in the QT. If the other person accepts the two of you must do the relevant reveal.
You must post in the thread if you are privately revealing to someone, then you just do it.

Regarding moderation, it'd be awesome if you could step in. Depending on how much you're willing to do, the minimum would be just sending out roles, and we can organise the rooms easily enough, but if you wanted to do the rooms each day and enforce deadlines, that'd be even better.

Responsibilities:

Moderator:
Sign ups
Send out Roles
Send Out Colours
Assign Rooms randomly
Create QT for rooms. Delete rooms at the end of the day.
Solve disputes

Players:
Maintain deadlines.
Maintain rules
Do leadership Checks
Create QT for rooms. Delete rooms at the end of the day.

So after creation i would only need to log on at a specific time of the day to resend out PMs containing the room QT's and delete the old ones. This will have to be either 12-1pm or 7pm onwards (All GMT) for me. But players can quite easily sort out the new QT's themselves thinking about

I think 3 days per day might work, because that will give people who cannot log on for a day a good couple of days to discuss things.

I'll post a sign up thread later today

Hmm, well, i would have thought deleting the rooms would be the way to go, so you cannot link back refer to what people have said like a real game.

But isnt vital I suppose!

Can you do that in real life mafia?

Also, while I didn't read the whole rulebook, couldn't you make the first day five days, the next four, etc. like the original game says?

Whats real life mafia got to do with it, this isnt that game, this is this game. Meh, i dont really mind either way, was just suggesting a way to make it truer to the rules.

And the rulebook says minutes, i dont think 5,4,3 days is equal in proportion to 5,4,3 minutes.  But again, i dont really mind, im not that invested in it, someone make a call and ill post a start up thread

Also, the QTs could be PMed to people by the mod.  That way we don't have to worry about people cheating.

Ozle has volunteered to mod (I want to play, basically :P).

For roles, I was thinking we probably don't just want the basic set, but we also don't want the game to be incomprehensible role madness. So something like... maybe just The Standard (Bomb/Pres, Daughter/Martyr, Doctor/Engineer, Nurse/Tinkerer, remainder R/Bs & a bury card), perhaps that with r/b Spy as well, just to make things a little more spiced up.

I'd say lets leave it up to Ozle, but who knows what kind of madness we'd end up with then :D.

My understanding is that, yes, the possible roles are all public EXCEPT in cases where a card is "buried".  A buried card is required for some roles and prohibited for others, though there is some magic shuffling they describe that lets you account for both.

Started a proper sign up thread. thinks its simpler than wading through this, which is more of a discussion about the game half the time.
