The sound of sirens approach. I know not from where, nor how far away they are, nor when they will arrive. All I know is that by the time they reach me, I'll be gone.
Twenty minutes ago I had been sitting in my office, a nice hard double in one hand, and a pawn from a forgotten game of chess in the other. I had just closed my latest case and was looking forward to a little bit of time to myself.
I should've known better. I finished my drink and set the cup down. It was getting late, and I knew I should be heading home. As I reached down to pick up my briefcase, I saw my assistant's silhouette behind the glass of my office door - he was probably getting ready to go home himself. I looked down to check that all my papers were in order, and that's when it all happened.
The glass to my door shattered as my assistant's body was flung through it like a rag-doll. The man who had thrown him stood on the other side, bigger and stronger than any man I had ever met. I knew this wasn't going to end well for me. My gun was in my desk drawer and was unloaded besides.
As the man advanced, I demanded he tell me his name, but he remain mute.
I had always suspected this day would come. Oh, I knew who he was all right, even if he didn't utter a word. I also knew that he probably wouldn't kill me on the spot - his boss would want to have a few words at the very least. Still, the thought of fighting him didn't excite me.
I tried to reason with the man, told him I would come quietly, but still, he advanced. It seemed he had orders to rough me up. Well, it wasn't my first rodeo.
I knew my time was up. In a last ditch effort I grabbed the first thing that came to hand - a package, unopened, that had arrived earlier in the day - and flung it straight at the mans head. My aim was true, and there was an audible thunk as it collided.
Sure, it didn't do him much harm, but it split his lip and smashed his nose. I was going to do everything I could to make this as unpleasant for him as I could before I went down.
In the end, I didn't last 5 minutes. As the world started going dark around me, I noticed the package that I had flung had broken open. I didn't know where the contents had landed, but there was a letter lying on the floor tangled in the packaging.
As the man pulled me to my knees, the world swam in and out of focus. I heard sirens in the distance, but knew they would arrive too late. Through the haze, one thing stood out clearly though, and it was the words of the note from the package... The part that wasn't covered in blood anyway. They read:
Dear Philip Marlow...
So run! Take this package and flee!...
With this safely tucked away, the...
Remember! This package must not come into the....
Please, Philip, fo....
With the words dancing through my head, I passed out.
Day One has begun!

Important Modnotes:
In addition to any actions that your role may grant you, each player may take one of two additional actions each night. They are as follows:
1) Investigate another player, to see if they currently have the Package. If successful, you learn what that player has discovered about the package.
2) Name a player and attempt to steal the Package from them. If successful, you will be in possession of the package and will examine it to learn it's secrets.
This process is done in real-time, and results each night will be resolved by timestamp on the submitted action. This action is guaranteed to succeed, and cannot in any way be prevented.
