Spiel Essen

I'm not 100% sure yet, but I'm planning to attend the Spiel convention in Essen for the first time.
I'm not that interested in picking up games, rather the experience on its own and maybe playtest a few games.

Is anyone going as well so that we can meet?
Any advice what games I should checking out?
Any advice in general from anyone who was there yet?

I'll be there.
I'll be demoing for Queen Games Friday-Sunday and check out the fair myself on Thursday.
You definitely should check out Greed, and I'm not just saying that because Ill be demoing it.

Cool, if I go I'll come by and say hello.
I already watched rahdo's runthrough of Greed, it's a neat game.

I won't make it this year either. I've only been there one time, but it was awesome.

I may be a bit biased, but I think you should check out the Spoils booth. ;)

I knew the right people, eHalc.

Sadly, it looks like I won't be able to make it to the fair on Thursday, so I won't have much time to actually look at stuff.

When will you be there, Qvist?

Probably Thursday and Friday.

Back from Essen and I had a blast.

I'm not that interested in picking up games, rather the experience on its own and maybe playtest a few games.

Well, it was different than planned. I picked up a lot of games, but only 2 new releases: "Legends of Andor II" and "Progress: Evolution of Technology". I can't wait to play both of these.
But my Dominion collection is now complete, I finally picked up Guilds and Intrigue. I also got the new Prince promo which came without a real randomizer card as the randomizer card has advertisement on the front, but oh well...

I also picked up at reasonable prices:

Legacy: The Testament of Duke de Crecy
Suburbia
Flash Point: Fire Rescue
Splendor
Android: Netrunner
and the Civilization expansion Fame and Fortune

I also met Watno at the Queen booth and Michael Wißner.

I playtested Alchemists which was hyped like crazy. But it just didn't make it for me as it's probably too heavy and long to play with my wife and I'm still not convinced if I like that playing with a smartphone is a must. Also, the personal player board is really fiddly as the potion tokens are too big to fit into the holes. It was interesting though and I hope that I don't regret it not getting it.
I also playtested a game calles Time Masters. It is a deck builder that focussed on comboes. There is no currency to buy the cards, but you can buy a card with cost X if you have played X cards in that turn (and playing a card costs mana) which is a neat idea.

All in all it was great and I hope that I can go there again next year, but we'll see.

"Progress: Evolution of Technology".

I received my copy of Progress.  I was disappointed to find that all of the tokens are printed slightly off center.  I checked photos from a recent kickstarter update and the ones in the photos also seem to be off center.  How are your tokens Qvist?  I'm thinking they may all be like that.  I can live with it, but it'll still bother me just a tad.

They are slightly off center indeed, but I didn't even notice it until I checked, so it doesn't bother me.
Btw, I played my first round and it was fun. My wife said though that the down time is pretty big and I have to agree with her. There is nothing to do on an opponent's turn.

I guess I have an eye for that. It bothered me the whole time I was punching them out.
