3 players. One is a Winner, One is a Loser, One is a Banana

Winner is publicly revealed. They have to choose the player who is the banana to win.

The Banana wins if the winner picks him.

If the Loser is picked they win, and the winner and banana both lose.

We can probably use this thread for multiple games.

Introductions / Axxle is Baxxle
« on: February 25, 2014, 09:01:50 pm »
Hey all! I've been away from the forums for a while but now I'm back.

But who is Axxle really? A lot of you know me from the forum games section: helping pops familiarize and addicting you all to mafia, but beyond that?

I'm tall (6'6"), dark(half-hispanic), and handsome(according to Mom).

I was the last person to run BGG's Dominion League, which was the best way to compete before the leaderboard was implemented. I was first introduced to Dominion at USC by some of my grad student friends, who quickly showed me how in depth the strategy could be, no real big money phase for me.

I love board games in general, my favorite has got to be Cosmic Encounter.  I just love the balance of tactics, social ability, and chaos.

My philosophy is to love living life. Have fun at every opportunity. Traveling to other countries, games, skydiving, music festivals, paintball, musicals, tv, drinking, books, karaoke, comics, whatever.

I'm a videogame programmer which I'm stoked about. The current one I'm working on is Nosgoth, a crazy multiplayer game that pits ranged vs melee against each other. The toughest thing was iterating to make it balanced and fun and I think we're getting it! It's also the biggest reason I've been away, working on it sapped any kind of organizational energy I had.

I think that's bare bones enough? Any questions?

"In a dystopian future, the totalitarian nation of Panem is divided between 12 districts and the Capitol. Each year two young representatives from each district are selected by lottery to participate in The Hunger Games. Part entertainment, part brutal retribution for a past rebellion, the televised games are broadcast throughout Panem."[1] You are one of these participants.  Survive, and may your district celebrate and thrive in your success for years to come.

====================================================================================================================

This is a pretty simple game.  I'll take signups for a few days.

Basically:
It's a free for all, with one or no winners.
Everyone can talk to everyone (PM, in thread, whatever).
Each round a player can:
  • Shoot another player.
  • Shoot in the air.
  • Shoot yourself.

If you shoot in the air, but are shot by another player, you are eliminated.
If you shoot yourself, and no player shoots you, you are eliminated.
If you shoot yourself and someone or multiple players shoots you, those player(s) are eliminated and you are safe.
If you shoot someone else and you are shot or the player you shoot has shot themselves, you are eliminated.

After each round, all actions will be revealed.

We'll have 24 hour deadlines, if you don't submit you will shoot in the air. If you have any questions post them in thread.  Good luck!

The dudeabides and I played this interesting setup with Conspirator, Embassy, Fairgrounds, Fool's Gold, Herbalist, Ironworks, Minion, Philosopher's Stone, Potion, Stables, and Thief.

http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201301/16/game-20130116-181931-f2870872.html

We both just stared at the kingdom for a while turn one pondering what the best direction would be.  There's Herbalist/PStone, but that'd get rocked pretty hard by minion.  Then there's Conspirator, with herbalist as the only plus buy.  But I don't think either of us were certain whether Minion or Stables were the better enabler for that.

I ended up getting a Stables stack with Conspirator support and ignored Ironworks and Minion entirely.  I think the way dude tried to recover with Fairgrounds was a good idea.  How do you have played it?

Non-Mafia Game Threads / Zendo Questions
« on: December 12, 2012, 02:38:25 am »
Pretty sure this game will be somewhat of a hit here.

This post is mostly copied from mafiascum: http://forum.mafiascum.net/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=23946

Those of you familiar with both Twenty Questions and Zendo already know the rules. For everyone else, let me break it down.
  • Each round, there is one Oracle and a flock of Petitioners.
  • At the beginning of the round, the Oracle invents a secret rule, completely mechanical, based on - and solely on - the exact wording of the questions asked. This rule will, given the exact wording of a question, tell the Oracle to reply either "Yes" or "No". You must be able to answer the same question the same way, regardless of the context of the question. Examples include:
    • Any question with an even number of words, reply "Yes"; otherwise, reply "No".
    • Any question beginning with a consonant, reply "Yes"; otherwise, reply "No".
  • Bear in mind that, first, any overly-complicated rule (e.g. "Any question whose SHA-1 hash ends with an even number, say 'No'; otherwise, say 'Yes'") will get you mocked and shunned; second, every rule is more complicated than it initially appears; and third, if you screw up three times, you must concede (and thereby become an object of pity and lose 1d6 points of respect).
  • During the round, any Petitioner (i.e. anyone other than the Oracle) may either ask questions, or attempt to guess the rule. Each question asked shall be answered in order by the Oracle, according to the rule. Guesses the Oracle shall deal with in one of exactly two ways:
    • By conceding, and revealing the rule that had been used.
    • By replying with a question whose answer is different under the actual rule than according to the guess.
    • For example: if the rule is "beginning with a consonant = yes" and someone guesses "beginning with a W = yes", the Oracle might say, "Had it the ability, would a woodchuck chuck wood?"
  • The Oracle shall include in each post answering questions and responding to guesses a list of all prior questions, answers, guesses, and responses.
  • If the Oracle takes longer than 72 hours to answer a question, the Oracle shall forfeit. If no Petitioners have submitted questions or guesses for 96 hours, then any Petitioner may ask the Oracle to reveal the rule and step down.
  • The Petitioner who first guesses correctly shall become the next Oracle. If there is no such petitioner (such as after an Oracle is forced to forfeit) [edit: or if said petitioner does not choose a rule within a reasonable timespan], the first poster to so choose may become the next Oracle.

Start!

Rules used so far:

The question contains a doubled character.

The question contains a comma.

The question contains a word that starts with "m"

The question contains a capital vowel

The words in the question are arranged alphabetically

The question contains all of the letters in "a rule"

The question has a prime number of characters

Both first and last letters of the question are both consonants or both vowels

The previous question shares any words with current question (later ruled an invalid question)

The average word length of the question is greater than 4 characters.

Third letter of the question is a vowel

"In Cosmic Encounter, each player is the leader of an alien race. The object of the game is to establish colonies in other players' planetary systems. Players take turns trying to establish colonies. The winner(s) are the first player(s) to have five colonies on any planets outside his or her home system. A player does not need to have colonies in all of the systems, just colonies on five planets outside his or her home system. These colonies may all be in one system or scattered over multiple systems. The players must use force, cunning, and diplomacy to ensure their victory."

Welcome to the second f.DS session of Cosmic Encounter.  Feel free to ask my any rules questions that pop up.  A link to the rules for the base set is located toward the end of this post.

This game will use aliens from all sets, and will use the Rewards deck variant from Cosmic Incursion.  If we have 8 players we will also be including the Large Group Cosmic Cards from Cosmic Alliance in the Cosmic Deck.

You will be given a choice of three aliens.  Please PM me your choice of alien.  Also PM me the flare out of the ones you didn't pick that you'd like to see in the deck.

Please send me Conditional Orders (COs) when you can.  This will speed the game up considerably. eg "If the offense invites me, I will send 3 ships to the offense, unless XYZ alien joins the defense with at least 2 ships" or "If I am Cosmic Zapped I will play my Card Zap to counter it"
