I think it would help, when people are expressing their feelings about the game, for them to be explicit about whether they played with drafting or without -- we've played with drafting for so long that I had honestly forgotten that the default game doesn't include the draft.

Boondoggle
$8 Action - Fate
Receive every Boon

Do I even receive the ones set aside for whatever the name of that card is? (Druid?)

Re: Mayor

This effect doesn't currently exist (obviously) and that's fine. But once this effect exists, the effect "your provinces are worth 8vp" could also exist. If you have both Mayor and this other card, how much are your provinces now worth?

I have 93 hours played. I'm not particularly proud of that. But yeah, it's really good.

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Right way to play when you can’t win?
« on: January 29, 2018, 06:58:15 pm »
Was there a possible path for you to find to victory?  If so, pursue that path, even should it have little chance of success. If there is literally no way left for you to win, then end the game as quickly as possible.
Seems reasonable.

The more awkward question - and it's one I've been on the sharp end of a couple of times - is what about kingmaking? You realise you're not going to win, but one line of play would favour player A and another would favour player B. Now what?

I think that, even in those circumstances, I apply the same algorithm — if there's any possible way that I can win, even if me attempting to win that way favors one player over another, I try and win that way. If there's no possible way to win, then I end the game as quickly as possible, even if that causes one player to win over another.

I don't play very much four players, but I'm confused when you said that which was too strong against the people who had chapel. Are the players with chapel not trashing all of their coppers with it also? As long as you're willing to trash all your toppers, it's not hard to trash the curses with chapel as they come in general.

That's my take, anyways.

I don't suppose there's been any reconsideration of adding this kind of user report feature? I just had the following experience in a game (the first message 10 seconds into my first turn), but I closed the tab before remembering that the lightning bolt was an option. (Name and game number withheld.)

I feel like, in this context, it was likely "go fuck yourself". But "good for you" is also a possibility, and much less depressing.

Rules Questions / Re: Pay order mechanics
« on: December 26, 2017, 12:04:10 pm »
Based on what you've posted, could I play Haggler, call coin of the realm, play Haggler, play a Silver, buy a Peddler, gain a Villa as a result of Haggler1, move to Action phase as a result of Villa gain, and gain a Bank as a result of Haggler2?

Doesn't Peddler cost $4 when you buy it, so Haggler1 can't make you gain Villa (because it doesn't cost less than Peddler)? In a magical world where Peddler's base cost is $9 (so it costs $5 with two Hagglers in play), then I would agree with the rest of your supposition, though.

I agree this sounds weird and makes me question my understanding of the relevant rules, though.

Dominion Articles / Re: Bard is not weak

Bard/BM is probably okay, but I think its main utility is definitely that it's very good at hitting €5 after the first reshuffle. I agree with your characterization of Tracker.

Another card whose main utility is that it's very good at getting you $5 cards after the first reshuffle is Feast.

Another card whose main utility is that it's very good at getting you $5 cards after the first reshuffle is Silver.

Even when Villa sends you to the Action phase, you still have to finish resolving all the triggers before doing anything else.

If you buy something with Tax debt tokens on it, and you have a Haggler in play, you choose the order of "gain a cheaper card" and "take the debt tokens". If you choose to "gain a cheaper card" first, and gain Villa, you'll trigger "go to the action phase", and then resolve that trigger, going to the action phase. You still have to resolve the old "take the debt tokens" (and the old "gain the card you bought") before you can do anything else (like play actions), though. Changing phases from Villa doesn't put the other triggers on hold or anything.

Rules Questions / Re: Pay order mechanics
« on: December 26, 2017, 08:51:40 am »
I think I understand the question you're asking, but I'm not hundred percent sure.

To buy a card, you point at a card in the kingdom and say "I'm buying this one." You can only point at cards that you have the coins and potions (and buy) to pay for, and you can only point at cards you're allowed to buy (so you can't point at Grand Market with Copper in play). When you point at the card, you lose the coins and potions (and buy), and then trigger the "when you buy" effects.

One of the "when you buy" effects that always triggers is "gain that card you pointed at". You also trigger things like taking the debt tokens from tax, gaining VP from Goons you have in play, trashing a card with Farmland, etc. You then resolve those triggers in the order you choose. Some of those triggers may trigger more things -- if you buy Farmland, you can trash a card to gain I'll Gotten Gains. That causes a new trigger, which you resolve right away, before you go back to the original set of triggers. Eventually, you run out of triggers from buying the card, and you get back down to the original trigger, which makes you gain the card. (Which may trigger any number of new things.)

With Villa and Tax specifically, you get the debt tokens when you Buy Villa, but you only return to the Action phase when you finish Gainig Villa, which necessarily happens later.

Someone feel free to correct me if I got something wrong.

Ifskipping cleanup is usually the worst option, and is also by far the most confusing option, then yeah, don't even let people do it.  It's like building a road, and adding an extra lane that's intentionally full of potholes. Just don't add that lane. Someone will drive down it even though it's a bad decision, and why would you want that?

Dominion General Discussion / Re: How good is Fishing Village really?
« on: December 08, 2017, 10:57:52 pm »
Doesn't FV effectively contribute +Actions equivalent to having 2 villages? Since after playing you have +2 Actions now and 2 Actions to start your next turn?

It does until you start being able to draw your whole deck every turn. Then, a normal Village provides an extra action each turn, and so does Fishing Village.

A non-activated Vassal is just a Silver that uses up your action. A Silver doesn't and is always activated.

Conclave is better than Vassal

That's probably why the woman on Conclave looks more self-confident than the guy kneeling on the floor on Vassal (is he the vassal, or the dude on the left?)

Often a non activated Conclave will be non activated because you don't have any actions left in your hand, anyways.

Online, if you Moat an Ambassador, and no copies are returned, you don't see what is revealed.

I was going to make a bug thread, but then I realized there's a left field interpretation of the rules where that is correct???  Maybe???
"Reveal a card from your hand" is how Ambassador starts. You reveal a card!

Maybe there is an argument to be made that, because of moat, you are unaffected by the attack, and having the card revealed to you is an effect of the attack.

I think it's a bad argument, though.

Cards with vanilla bonuses always list them in the order [Card, Action, Buy, $, VP].

How is Inheriting Baron like Delve?

Baron + Estate is like Silver + Silver. So buying an Estate after Inheriting Baron is like buying a Silver for $2 -- Delve.
