Dominion General Discussion / Re: The Dominion Engine Alignment Chart
« on: November 29, 2017, 06:14:26 pm »
These charts are fun, but I not only don't understand some of your card choices, I also don't understand what you mean by "engine."

To me "engine" is "do more." That is really what it's all about. You do more. +Cards +Actions and +Buys all let you do more. IGG / Duchy, there is no do-more there, you are not doing more. It's a deck, it's not an engine.

I think that's somewhat the point — the categories are defining what types of decks individual people would classify as an engine, and classifying  people based on that.  It seems you're not an "outcome neutral, ingredient rebel".

Did you talk to a guy in the game library about which Time Stories expansion to try out, and he recommended Under the Mask over Marcy Case and Operation Anchorage? Because if so, that was me!

EDIT: Not anchorage, whatever the snow one is called.

No actually, but it's quite possible that you talked to me friends whom I was playing the game with! They told me that Under the Mask had been recommended to them. I checked your pic in the post your pic thread and don't think I remember seeing you.

Next year we should try to make a point of getting together for a game.

There was a group of three guys, I talked to one of them. So maybe!

I hesitate to look at the pics thread, I didn't even remember having posted there. This is a me:

Variants and Fan Cards / Re: Blacker Market
« on: November 10, 2017, 09:23:56 am »
I wonder if, if black-market were printed today, it would actually be a night guard — it fits the theme, and they could leave off that part about having to play treasures during your action phase, could you could just give money you had left over from your buy phase.

This thread just got a lot more interesting now that we know that it was Donald who blacklisted the OP.

Rules Questions / Re: Does Sage skip past Vineyards?
« on: November 04, 2017, 12:15:36 am »
Specifically, Sage checks two things:

"Does the card cost exactly $3(0P,0D)?"

Or

"Does the card cost strictly more than $3?" For example, $5, $3P, or $8+8D all have each currency (money, potions, debt) equal to or more that $3,0P,0D.

EDIT: They are no longer this big.

You need to save the images from the generator, then upload them to an image hosting site, then link those images here. Currently you've tried to insert the entire web page from the generator into an img tag, which is not a thing that works.

Dominion Articles / Re: Etiquette in Dominion Online
« on: October 31, 2017, 11:01:58 am »
Is it possibly worth being more verbose with the abbreviations, like how you were with "gl hf"? Someone reading an article about online gaming etiquette may not know what "gg" or "ffs" stand for.

$4 villages usually have a rather minor effect in addition to the village effect. That's because, on boards where you need villages, you're usually happy to pay $4 for the village effect anyway.

Exactly. When you compare Blessed Village to Walled Village or Farming Village, it doesn't look so bad after all.

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Help me solve an idealized endgame
« on: October 14, 2017, 11:34:44 am »
Strategy stealing doesn't work, first player loses when he ties score.

And empty piles can mean that mirroring is not always possible anyway.

In this context, does "strategy stealing" mean copying the actions of the player before you? I understood it to mean that if we suppose there is a winning strategy for player to, player one can execute the same winning strategy have a turn sooner.

Dominion: Nocturne Previews / Re: Is there any update on Nocturne?
« on: October 13, 2017, 09:35:57 am »
As I have said elsewhere, the release date is hinging on the plastic trays arriving by boat.
Wild speculation: this suggests the plastic tray is somehow different from that used by other Dominion sets/expansions?
It's the Dark Ages tray. There is incentive not to make new ones.

Ooh so there's a 20 card pile to go in the Rats slot

Either that, or there was some incentive not to make a new tray. Hard to know if that's the case though.

The thing was saying "this avatar is too strong" or "this avatar is too weak for its cost" is that, because this is a new concept that is in addition to everything to me and it was already doing, they are all going to be "overpowered" in a vacuum, and that OPlayer with one of these should always beat a player without one.  The challenge is making the avatar is roughly balance among themselves, because it's relatively unproductive to compare the cost of purchasing an avatar to the cost of purchasing a card, other than to make sure that the avatars are worth purchasing at some point in both games (because if they work, it'll be like were playing without them).  So it's not as easy as looking at a band called the cops five and draws cards on terminally and seeing how comparable it is the laboratory. This is a whole new thing but you can kind of set the cost to benefit ratio wherever you want, as long as that ratio is relatively consistent across all the avatars.

So Bulgrim has four options? I mean, his ability 1 is the same as the Voodoo ability 1 and ability 2. Just feels weird to put two abilities into one like that.

40
The one term that has always amused me is "Good stuff deck"; it's generally about as good as the "Democratic People's Republic of Korea" is a republic run by the Korean people in a democratic fashion.

"Good stuff" comes from Magic: the Gathering, right? Basically talking about a deck that played individually powerful cards, as opposed to synergistic combinations of cards. Or is the point you're making that Gold isn't a "good stuff", since there's usually something you can be doing better than buying Gold?

When you consider "throne", "king", "crown", "disciple", "procession", "chapel", "bonfire", "farmland", "ironworks", "workshop", and "alms" to be verbs.

When you internally groan when hearing about a country Rebuilding after a disaster.

Hey now, king and crown, at least, have already been verbs for a while.

Obviously reading a strategy article on the wiki during an online game is cheating! That's why the strategy articles should be on the blog, so I can read them there during games instead, with a clear conscience.

Hearthstone / Re: Has anyone learned Hearthstone yet?
« on: September 08, 2017, 06:42:37 pm »
I mean if the issue is that you want Innervate and Fiery War Axe to "rotate out" then you should do that with an actual rotation system like Kibler supports and nerfing every classic card that is useful at all sequentially until none are left.

There's like no excuse for not adding Battlecry: X armor to Fiery War Axe alongside the mana cost nerf.

Excuse: they want basic cards to be simple. You need some vanilla weapons, and there's not that many; what else is there? Arcanite Reaper, assassins blade, Rogue hero power. Am I missing any?

I also play the drums, like to watch movies and go skiing in winter.

So what do you do in summer?

That's the community I missed  :)
I apparently still can't write stuff in English the way I mean it.

That's English's fault more than yours.

I don't think he's as great as lots of reviewers think he is

How great do lots of reviewers think he is? He is certainly a very strong control card.

I had 10 Un'Goro packs, 3 Frozen Throne packs, 7 Classic packs, and 2 of the other two packs and got a legendary from each set, including a golden Lyra and a golden that $5 6/5 Hunter deathrattle legendary that nobody ever plays.

Is it bad that when I read "$5 6/5 hunter deathrattle legendary", my first thought was "but highmane costs $6"?

I assume it's been checked that the 270 degrees displayed are accurate? I remember some Street Fighter type game where the last section of the players health bars were displayed incorrectly, such that the last ~10% of health points was squished down into the same length as the first ~5%, so that it looked like you were closer to death than you actually were.

Finnish SSNs are 11 characters, two of which aren't digits.

So in order to find your SSN in pi, you first have to convert pi to base 36?
