« on: May 06, 2013, 11:34:10 am »

Audience: *applaud*

Welcome to Room 25, the exciting new game show where you are the star! In this episode, we will be exploring teamwork, but watch out! One of you might actually be a traitor.

Audience: *gasp*

For those of you playing the game at home, the rules will help you follow along.
You may also find the map of interest. Through this, we can follow the players' progress. Be sure to visit our sponsors; try the new Soylent Blue—now with vitamin U!

I bet you're asking, "How does the game work, Wink?"

Audience: How does the game work, Wink?

I'm glad you asked. Each player will have his own QuickTopic mailed to him. This QuickTopic not only tells the player whether he is a prisoner….er, I mean contestant, or a guard, but it also allows the player to submit his moves. Remember that your two moves must be unique, and you may choose to pass the first, second, or even both phases. But the clock is ticking!

We'll pause now for a commercial break. When we return, our intrepid contestants will be ready to begin, armed with foreknowledge of one of the room adjacent to the start chamber.

Audience: *cheer*

1. Qvist

Yay lets get this started!

Welcome back.

Well, our four contestants have been dumped into the start chamber, and, boy, do they look worried!

Each contestant is furiously scribbling his choice as to which room he'll look at. Normally, if this were the home game, you'd know what the person before you chose, but the rules don't say which order they are looked at, so we'll make it simultaneous because we're that type of game show.

Once all players have indicated which room they wish to peek at, we will begin.

Our engineers have been hard at work to relabel this map. The guy who labeled the rows with letters has been fired. Now the rows and columns are labeled like how you'd find in a spreadsheet.

A DEADLY SPREADSHEET!

Keep that in mind when choosing which room to learn about first.

Can we talk here before making our choice?

But not strictly better, because the spinoff can have a different cost than the expansion.

Actually, that makes a lot of sense and gels with the rules.

I did let mail-mi know what room he looked at was. I did tell mail-mi what is in B3. I had not received any others yet.

And you can post what room you want to look at first in here.

Hmmm, a good question. Unless someone threatens mutiny, I'm going to say no for this one. Between the rulebook and the variants on BGG, I did choose a layout. But I also could have just shuffled all the pieces together (with Vision room and Room 25 receiving the usual exceptions) with no clue as to what was used.

Though, if using one of the layouts in person, you would know which tiles were in the mix, and if someone prefers that the knowledge be out there, I'll tell you which one it is. I thought it might be more fun with uncertainty, but then again I'm not the one in the mix.

I think having some idea about the level of danger would be good. Especially as it's all of our first game.

Sure thing. I laid out the beginner game. The tile composition is:

Code: [Select]
Vortex Room 2
Vision Chamber 1
Trapped Chamber 2
Control Chamber 1
Empty Chamber 8
Mortal Chamber 1
Flooded Chamber 2
Acid Bath 2
Cold Chamber 2
Dark Chamber 2

I think we can only say what color it was.

I didn't get that impression when I first read it, but that makes sense now about the danger level. I was thinking it was more nebulous, like, "Holy moly, don't go in there!" But color = level.

You definitely can't use the room's name, though. That is clear in the rules.

C4 is yellow and I don't see any need to go there.
I'm first player, right?

I like to hear about C2 and D3 before programming my turn.

D3 Is also yellow, though going in there wouldn't  be too terrible. let's hope C2 is green.

It looks like table talk is encouraged in this game. Much like any other cooperative game, you're working together toward victory. So, work out your plan. When you're ready to send your commands, post them in the QT. You don't have to designate the target of your actions. That can be determined at the time the action is resolved (e.g., if you planned on going one way, but a preceding player reveals that another room is safe, then you can choose to go that direction when it's your turn.

And the player order at the bottom of the sheet goes from top down. So, Qvist performs his first action, then Tables, mail-mi, and liopoil. Same thing with the second actions. At the end of the round, Qvist gets bumped down to -9, which means that Tables goes first in the next round.

And if Room 25 is found before turn -5, then the turn markers move to -5. The game show host is a bit of a bastard.
