Most Cards in deck, No +Buy
« on: January 10, 2013, 02:03:40 pm »
+2

By the end of turn 5, in a Kingdom with no +Buy (Or Black Market), obtain the largest deck possible in 5 turns.

Assume perfect shuffle luck.
You are the only player.

I got 36

Anything "by turn 5" can be solved with CelesialCamelon combo to do "WHOLE KINGDOM".  ;D

Yes, but here we are specified that we can't use +buy or black market...

I can get 36 too!

Open: Beggar/Beggar

Beggar, gain three coppers, buy king's court.
Beggar, gain three coppers, buy border village, gaining cache
Play King's Court-Beggar, gain nine coppers, buy border village, gaining cache.

Is that your solution?

With a small modification to heron's strategy, I get 42

Open: Beggar/Chancellor
T3: Necropolis, Beggar, Chancellor, buy KC
T4: Necropolis, KC-Beggar, Chancellor, buy BV gaining Cache
T5: KC-Beggar, buy BV gaining Cache

A more complicated strategy can probably beat this one.

Well, it's easy to get 1 more card by T4 gaining Haggler instead of Cache, and then T5 you'll be able to gain an extra Cache and end up 1 card ahead.

I'm pretty sure the Chancellor/Ironworks/Nobles/Bridge/Throne Room/King's Court/Watchtower solution has more cards in the deck before any extra buy was used.

Only barely, I think -- 44 cards vs 43 cards in the post previous to yours.

Now you only have to exchange the last 3 Bridge gains with Beggar gains and you're already over it.
And I think it can be easily changed to add Hagglers to this, but I'm too lazy to find this out ATM.

Nope, but it does involve Beggar

But bridge has +Buy, and the challenge is in a kingdom without +Buy.

I thought it means that you aren't allowed to use the additional buys to buy stuff, but I take Bridge only for cost reduction here, but for buying extra stuff.
If misunderstood that, then that's a whole different story.

It says 'a kingdom with no +buy', so I had assumed that any card with +buy was impermissible, regardless of what you are using it for.

You could probably tweak it to use Beggar instead of Bridge.  Then on Turn 5, you get to KC Beggar twice.  And since you aren't really doing anything with it, Watchtower could probably be replaced with something else.

I am too lazy to investigate further. :P
