Should official FAQ wording include links?

I noticed that currently the official FAQ never links to the things it mentions, like set names or other card names. Should it? Also, I requested an account.

Your account is activated. Feel free to add links. I don't think there's a reason against it.

Isn't that the sort of thing a bot can do easily? (I don't have any wiki experience/knowledge).

Actually not really, because you don't really want to have everything linked. Say if there really is a page where every mention of a card name should be linked, that's easy, but usually you don't want that.
Imagine every mention of say Province in say page:Tournament is a link, the whole article is blue...

Hmm, that makes sense, but then, what's the general rule of thumb for when to link? Just the first time a specific term is used in each article?

i'll take care of it if/when i get around to reworking the FAQ page. as of right now it's still mostly just a direct copy from the old forum FAQ. ive been meaning to update it for a bit but i wanted to create articles/stubs for each of the topics discussed first.

For the record, I wasn't referring to the FAQ page, but the official FAQ section on each card's page.

ah ok, my bad. to go off the other posts, i would just link the first instance. for lengthy articles, i think that first time in each section would work as well.

When are we going to allow anon access?

presumably whenever theory makes the 'official' announcement? still not sure how/when that might occur though.

TBH I think the more eyes the better, including allowing anyone to register and edit, but I understand that we want to get to a certain point before it's ready for release.  I just don't want that point to perpetually be sometime down the road.

I dunno, maybe put that up for a poll?  I have no experience with wikis.  Is anon editing a bad thing (vandalism) or a good thing (encourages participation)?

Default allow.  One valuable new contributor that you get (due to low barrier of entry) is worth 10 times fighting spam.  Alternatively, make it as permissive as possible until you hit a reason to restrict access.

I haven't edited because I'm too lazy to sign up for another account.

Oh man, please do, I know you'd be an important contributor! :)

Maybe we should go public and allow anons to edit ASAP in light of CF's comment, although one thing I want to see before this happens is have actual content in the articles Copper, Silver, Gold, Estate, and Duchy---important articles with no content except a picture!

(Clarification: I'm in favor of allowing anons to edit but we should protect the Main Page.)

We should default to allow anon access, but of course restrict the controversial pages like the ones about civility on Isotropic and the proper way to shuffle without cheating.

I've been linking every instance of a card name, every time. I think it should be as easy as possible to see what cards are being referred to, even if they've been linked elsewhere on a page.

I will change the registration probably on Saturday. If it doesn't work well, we can always switch back.

anon editing sounds good to me, but i would love to generate an 'official' list/article/whatever on some general guidelines for editing that we could point people towards. do's and don'ts, common article formats, stylistic issues, attempts at objectivity, etc. and we should probably figure out whether we want to keep the bulk of the discussion here or attempt to migrate it all to the wiki. i'd rather keep it here, but others might object to that.

well there ya go, i got a Duchy article started. and we could probably borrow a lot of content from the 'beyond silver' article to start to flesh out the silver page.

I'm in favor of opening it to the public ASAP. I know there are some important card articles that aren't started yet, but there's only so much a small group of users can do. I think now (or soon) is the perfect time to get people interested while there's still a lot to do, instead of having a well-polished wiki where they wouldn't be as interested in adding to it.

Holy crap, more than just got it started, it's one of the best articles on the wiki now! Great job +1
