Lewis & Clark (Game over: theorel wins)
« on: April 08, 2014, 03:45:39 pm »

Quote from: boardgamegeek
On November 30, 1803, the United States purchased Louisiana from Napoleon. U.S. President Thomas Jefferson decided to send two explorers – Meriwether Lewis and William Clark – to discover this huge terra incognita.

Lewis & Clark is a board game in which the players manage an expedition intended to cross the North American continent. Their goal is to be the first to reach the Pacific. Each one has his own Corps of Discovery that will be completed by the Native Americans and the trappers met during the journey. He has to cleverly manage his characters and also the resources he finds along the way. Beware, sometimes frugality is better than abundance.

Lewis & Clark features dual use cards. To be activated, one card must be combined with another one, which becomes unavailable for a while. Thus, players are faced with a constant dilemma: play a card or sacrifice it. During the game, each player acquires character cards that enlarge his hand, building a crew that gives him more options but it needs to be optimized as he will recycle his cards more slowly. This new "handbuilding" mechanism fits strongly the historical background.

Since the aim of the game is to be the first on the Pacific coast, the timing and the opportunistic use of the other players' positions are crucial.

If someone is very quick, I could add a fifth player :).

couple typos:
1. Hunting provides Food and Fur (not Stock)
2. Resource is called Equipement in the boat for some reason (spelled right everywhere else).

Okay, so I'm going to...play my Indian in Craftmanship for 1 Equipment, 1 Wood.

Play Interpreter powered by Fur Trader.  Take all 3 Indians, and discard Coboway.

Why are you not coloring the Support cards?  Based on the Pg 7 example, they still provide their resource badges...
Due to this, Jorbles could collect 6 wood if he wanted to, right? (after my lumberjack is replaced by the fur trader)

Oh, that's a good point I think? I think I would want 6 given the opportunity.

Yeah, I overlooked that support cards count as well.

Use Fur trader to support Blacksmith, collect 2 equipment.
Pay 3 equipment and 2 fur to recruit Sacagawea.

your boats can only handle 6 wood, do you still want to do that?

Oh, I thought it was unlimited...but that's just the indian boat.
In that case, I'm going to not use the Indian to power it, and just take the 4 wood.

One thing I didn't understand from the rules is the use of the Camp token. If you are allowed to fall behind your camp, what is the point of the camp token then?

Use Commander to power Lumberjack, collect 5 wood.

It would appear that Camp Tokens serve no purpose except for cards referring to them, and as a "progress indicator"
http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1065923/clarification-base-camp-tokens

@Jorbles: from Pag e9:
Pay 3 Wood and you have the choice to take :
-either one Boat tile (which can carry
resources) and 2 primary resources of your
choice from the Stocks,
-or one Boat tile (which can carry Indians)
and 1 Indian from the Stock. If there is no
Indian left in the Stock, take the tile alone.

So, you get 2 primary resources with your boat.
Place Indian in Expedition Upgrade, to gain a (2-free) resource boat.  I'll take Equipment and Food.  Then I'll recruit Cameahwait
