General Discussion / Re: STAR WARS
« on: May 28, 2018, 02:04:07 am »
Soooooo who's seen Solo?

It met my expectations.  I wasn't blown away by it or anything, but I liked the story and excited about how it fits into Star Wars canon.

I absolutely loved seeing Maul at the end.  I could see the next movie leaving Han Solo behind and following up on a Maul story.  Perhaps bring Ahsoka into a live-action movie?  I would love that.  Although probably won't happen because the Ahsoka novel already covers the timeline that the story would have to be set in.  But yeah, there is definitely a story to be written about Maul from the time after the Battle of Mandalore until we see Maul again in Rebels.

Also - this could potentially bring in some amazing Darth Vader action dueling Maul?  Maul will try to stay under the radar from the Empire given his defeat in his 2v1 fight against Sidius to bring his rule on Mandalore to an end, but I don't see how he will go completely unnoticed.  And we need a good lightsaber fight.  And it cannot be Obi-Wan (right?).  That will absolutely not work given Maul's story-line in Rebels (or would it work?).  Although who knows what they will actually do.  There are so many directions they can take, but I do think they need to leave Han Solo behind and let him just go work for the Hutts and where we find him in episode IV owing Jabba money.

I don't follow soccer much, but I do look forward to once again cheering on the good old U.S. of A. I'm sure that a cursory Google search would tell me that they aren't favored by the "experts" to come out on top, but I'll prefer to remain hopeful.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry

I love the new quests. Excuse me, research. As someone who does not have a raiding group and basically only plays when I take my dog on a walk, I am excited to potentially fill in the holes of my missing legendaries (still need articuno, lugia, suicide, rayquaza, and kyogre). Mewtwo who knows. I don't raid enough to get an EX pass.

I would play this with you. It would have to be streamed with commentary by jsh though. That we can listen to. On a chariot race board. Where we both only buy chariot race the first 5 turns.

ok ok I'll admit it. I just cross-posted in an obvious attempt to harvest some respect on f.ds

I remember thinking about respect/effort ratio and how posting memes was the best and organizing the league the worst thing I could do.
I was so wrong, writing your own dominion implementation is far worse.
Dude, 29 upvotes so far just for saying that I asked you to ban Possession. They'll upvote online Dominion, you just have to spin it right.

Yes yes, we're spinning it right here.
Let's make some more posts for people to upvote.
Or do you think people have standards and the posts actually need to contain information?

Definitely not

I am willing to bet money on "automatic undo's for non-information-revealing misplays" never becoming a feature.

If the wager is high enough, I bet Stef would take you up on that.

EDIT: Gosh dang it ninja'd by a post on page 2.

Only if you do 25 posts per page not the optimal 50 posts per page.

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Teaching Dominion to young children?

Kirian was referring to his kids. Reference the post your picture thread

I think PPR is a great springboard to begin analyzing the state of the game as the end approaches. Basically, PPR is the "basic deck types" of how to play the endgame. In itself it falls short of giving the whole picture of what you should analyze at endgame, but it starts the discussion and piques our interest into examining how to close out a game in a way that gives you the greatest chance of winning.

Go back to some old AI (the person, not the computer) games for some slow games. I can't find the link quickly, but there was that one game that lasted an hour I believe

Thank you! Any tips for where to start on here for a new forum user?

This thread. Read it from start to finish; it should get you at least 30% caught up on what is going on around here.

That was the thread that got me introduced to the forum

Yeah, this problem is literally the worst thing that has happened to me. I hope I don't have to deal with it before next Friday.

I agree.

Now I have to question everyone who says something is bimonthly or biweekly?

Avoid ambiguity- say twice a month, every other week etc.

Man I don't get people. I ask awesome questions on Tinder like "would you sacrifice me to the volcano gods in order to have your favorite food in infinite supply" and I don't even get a response.  :'(

Way too in depth for tinder. Well, from what I hear, not from experience

For the past week I was wondering just how can they cram Stephen King's It into a 2-hour movie. The answer is that they cannot. I was unaware that this is only Chapter 1. That does make sense, and I'm not mad, bro.

The film was very competent. There were some pretty good shots, and the actors all seemed to do pretty well. As to be expected, some scenes did not make it into the movie, and I missed them terribly, but a newcomer likely wouldn't notice.

So far the gripes I have about it are few. Due to the setting change, Richie's fear was also changed. I understand why they abandoned the Wolfman, but they could have chosen a better target. Also, the lone "beep-beep" line was really out of place since they changed that up too. And finally, the resolution was more physical than spiritual. Leaving this vague for anyone not familiar with the story, but let me just say that the battery acid will be missed.

But pretty good movie. Will watch Chapter 2.

As someone who has not seen/read other versions of the story, I thought the movie was very well done. Maybe it was the atmosphere...there was an overwhelming majority of 14-18 year-olds in a packed theater. When the jump-out-at-you scary parts happened we had our fair share of shouts, etc. But I could definitely tell that this was a well crafted story based on a good book. It wasn't too funny, too horror, too serious, but a well balanced story that touched on several emotions throughout the story. I had no expectations of really enjoying it going in, but I was pleasantly surprised by it and enjoyed the movie.

What's going on in this thread?

I never really know what's going on in any thread. I just post a bunch of stuff, kind of winging it

When talking about development as a dominion player, I think it is important to realize that different people learn different ways. When I started playing I really didn't read anything in the articles section, I just played a lot of games and posted/read in the game reports section.

My growth as a player was learning how to play by experience, rather than being taught through articles, etc. Now, don't get me wrong, I picked up on a lot of that just by spending time on the forum, but i wouldn't say it was how I got to where I am as a player. I find it much easier to learn through experience. But some people learn through articles. So, "depends on the person" I guess. Haha

All that to say, I think there is significantly more streaming (analogous to YouTube videos that used to be posted more) than there ever has been. The live interaction with the game may very well contribute to the decrease in articles. Take the "cage matches" that occur. Take seprix's recent article on lurker. He had a sample kingdom, it was challenged, played out live (streamed on twitch), and corrected. That is the evolution of learning dominion.

But there are people who don't learn that way, and I think you are totally right. Articles are essential in their development. I am not entirely sure what point I was trying to make, but yes. You are totally right.  We may be losing out on an audience that needs/wants those articles. And also no, learning how to play dominion has evolved and reaching people it would not have simply through articles

I think that it has very low moral status because it has f*gg*t in it

I'm always confused when people use censor characters in a completely legible word online.

Yeah, if you are concerned about language you should just use moat      . spoilers

All I see is that if I post in this thread I get at least 4 respect. I like it
