Buying decision

Hello,

I did not come on this forum for a long time (I even played Dominion League few years ago), but I'm back and I have a small question.

I am about to buy one last Dominion expansion (OK last... Depends whether my buying addiction will come back later or not, but I already have many expansions and will try to be reasonable) and for various reasons, I was tempted by Dark ages (I already have base set, Intrigue, Prosperity Seaside and some others).

But before making my choice I hesitate with Nocturne.

More precisely, the guy I mostly play with doesn't like too many attack cards, and Dark ages seem to include a lot of attack cards. So I wonder about Nocturne.

And here is my question : between Nocturne and Dark ages, is there one less complex (more simple to play, easier mechanisms, combos and cards) than the other ?

Thx for your help.

Or...

Maybe Dark ages is too much focused on attack and Nocturne is really complex... Then none of these two.

Therefore which would be among the latest expansions one relatively simple but which adds new mechanisms (Like the expansion Allies for instance I think) ? Adventures would correspond to that definition ? (Simple but adding new mechanisms) ?

If you want to avoid attacks, avoid both Dark Ages and Nocturne? What do you have?
I generally recommend Seaside, Menagerie, Adventures, and Renaissance as highly fun sets.
Nocturne is nice for its Heirlooms and Spirits, but the Hexes can put-off some people. We had a bad game with Hexes and avoided Nocturne for a few months.

Yeah, I really tried to focus on the choice "Dark ages or nocturne" but it's probably a bad idea.

I have Base set / Intrigue / Prosperity / Hinterlands / Guilds / Cornucopia / Allies / Seaside.

And I want to offer myself a last, fun, not too complex expansion.

Renaissance might be the one for you; it's less complex than most recent expansions and doesn't have a lot of Attacks.

Thx all of you...

Then the question is not at all "Dark ages or Nocturne ?", but "Adventures or Renaissance ?"...

Or both ? How would you compare them to Allies ?

Ohhhh, so many options....

I'd review the contents. Here is a link to Adventures https://wiki.dominionstrategy.com/index.php/Adventures and one for Renaissance https://wiki.dominionstrategy.com/index.php/Renaissance

Ok, Ménagerie now !  :) :) :) :) :)

So... Among the latest expansions, your position is that Menagerie is the best one in the category "fun and not too complex" ?

For me this is a very fun expansion.
It introduces Ways, the Exile mat, Horses and adds more Events and Duration cards.
Might seem a lot of new items, but they are not too complex.
You can introduce them one by one.
There are (only?) 3 Attack cards, but in a special sneaky way.

Late to the discussion, but I'd argue that Menagerie and Adventures are both very complex, the first due to the ways and some Exile interactions, the latter due to travellers, the tavern mat and all the tokens.

I can 100% recommend Seaside as a general great expansion that's not too complex and contains lots of fun cards with a great theme.
Incidentally, I like Dark Ages and Nocturne both a lot. They are a bit more complex than Seaside, and indeed have some attack cards, but those can simply be left out and you still have 30-some nice new cards to play with. Especially the shelters from Dark Ages and the Heirlooms from Nocturne make for incredibly diverse and fun gameplay! And they have a nice consistent theme as well.
Lastly, Cornocupia is easily overlooked, but contains quite some fun, too!
