On the one hand, starting this off and then leaving for many hours was a little bastardly.

On the other hand, this is already turning out better than I e. ver could have hoped.

I apologize for not catching the cryptography rule. I've taken it out for now, but if the cryptography gets too crazy I'll put it back in. No one will be modkilled. Except Morgrim if he doesn't show up soon!

I also just noticed Voltgloss has been trolling in here. Voltgloss, you had your chance to play and now you can't. If you're going to hang around, make yourself useful and post some votecounts or something. You can be unofficial troll/back-up-back-up mod.  But I don't want anyone else who's not playing to post here!

Now I have to go look through 12 pages of posts to come up with a vote count.

Fantasy as a genre should be Swords & Sorcery.  If you claim Fantasy and it isn't a medieval setting with the potential inclusion of Magic and Elves Dwarves and the like, then it's not Fantasy.

To further clarify: Harry Potter, World of Darkness, and Twilight are Urban Fantasy.


Why to claim Genre?  Maybe somebody has something in their PM like: "One of the mafia is a wizard who always wears blue".  Well, by gaining Genre information, he's got a better idea of who might be that mafia.  This is a simplified example, but it gets the idea across.

We could potentially do other not-full-role-claims as well.  Like "class" claims (a la fighter, rogue, wizard, gunslinger, face, tech, medic, etc).  I'm not sure what, if any, of this information could be useful to someone...but the more information we get out there, the more likely it is to be useful.  And the vaguer we can be about it, the harder it will be for scum to use to their advantage.  Anyways, that's why I think some surreptitious claims can be useful in games where there is unknown hidden information.

I know the mod might be lying, but since he said giving away fluff information in our pms might hurt, i don't see the point in doing that, so I wont give you the answer to my universe and everything, but maybe someone can explain this to me?

I started to rewrite the argument for genre-claiming in order to clarify (in case the previous one was insufficient).  But it looks like watno just missed it.  Anyways, thinking about where to go from here, I had the following thoughts about claiming:
We should avoid claiming our role-names I think, because they might suggest a role: like if someone is Leonard McCoy there's a good chance he's a doctor.  Actually claiming class is probably a bad idea in that vein (since a medic or cleric class suggests a doctor role).

Also, I'll join this new wagon, it seems like a good one.  Vote: Voltgloss
