Wow, been way too long since this thread updated. Tonight it's been a mix of Woodchuck and Angry Orchard ciders, and Barefoot Winery's Riesling. All good things.

I unfortunately can't drink much anymore since my school is super dry   I did go to our local bar on Wednesday for $2 long island iced tea night.  It's not really my thing, but it's cheap and I was with friends.  So it was decent.

I had my first long island iced tea last night! It was...not $2. My campus was very dry as well but I graduated several months back. :>

Graduation is a pretty crazy step but it's been good. Things feel weird now that school has started again, it's my first time since I can remember that I'm not going back to school, but (pseudo) adulthood is good too.

Fun fact about Long Island Iced Tea: It's name has its origins in prohibition, where it was a code word you could use to order a very boozy drink in Long Island speakeasies. That's why it doesn't actually have any tea in it.

I've been in this place where they serve "Devil's Iced Tea" which is Long Island Iced Tea with Absinthe instead of Coca-cola. Good luck on taking on multiples.

Fun fact about Long Island Iced Tea: It's name has its origins in prohibition, where it was a code word you could use to order a very boozy drink in Long Island speakeasies. That's why it doesn't actually have any tea in it.

I'd always heard that it had been invented in the '70s by a bartender who wanted to win a contest involving Triple Sec (he mixed all the white liquors in the bar with Triple Sec and added a splash of coke). Looking into it now there appears to be a disputed origin story, with an old recipe that seems similar to the modern one (but includes maple syrup). Still a tasty drink.

So I went to the bar again last night (again, $2 long island night) but I didn't want a long island.  I wanted whiskey.  So I ordered 3 long islands for my friends then a Maker's Mark for myself.  She asks me if "I want a shot" and pulls out a tiny plastic cup smaller than a communion cup. And I'm like "ummmm... no... I want a glass." so she grabs a plastic cup and pours some whiskey in the bottom of that.  Really?  I was so upset.  But I didn't make a fuss... If only I could just keep whiskey in my room...

After that I had what's called an "Angry Balls"  which is angry orchard and fireball whiskey.  Soooooooo tasty.

If you want a whiskey but want it to be handled with more care ask for an old fashion, it's bitters and whiskey supposed to be served in an old fashion glass(short round tumbler) but your usually given at least a rock glass.

Strongbow's changed their recipe to be much sweeter, aiming to appeal to American tastes. It'll offend many, but I'm happy. :>>
