Welcome to IsoDom 5: The IsoDomening
IsoDom 5 will be a Swiss-style tournament with a single-elimination finale. For those who don't know the basic idea of a Swiss tournament, essentially in each round you will play someone with the same number of prior wins and losses, though you should ideally never play the same opponent twice. This creates an ordering of contestants from most wins to fewest wins.
Tournament Structure:
- Each match during the Swiss portion will be two players, best-of-five.
- Games will be played with fully random kingdoms. Other setting may be negotiated between players; if an agreement cannot be reached, default settings are: Point tracker on, Veto off, Identical start on.
- There will be five rounds of Swiss play.
- The initial Swiss round will not be seeded, nor will there be any byes.
- The top eight players after the Swiss rounds will move into a single-elimination, seeded, three-round bracket.
- Elimination rounds will be two players, best-of-seven, including the final.
- Ties for moving into or seeding the elimination bracket will be broken by the Median-Buchholz system, followed by cumulative score.
Play Rules:
- There will be a maximum of 32 players in the main bracket
- If there is enough interest (48 players or more), two separate tournaments will be run, split by rating, with two separate elimination rounds; the players in separate brackets will not play each other.
- Players who were dropouts without warning in IsoDom 4 will not be allowed to participate. The tournament organizer will be the final arbiter of this condition, but in general if you missed more than one match in IsoDom 4, and you were the one who could not schedule, please don't sign up.
- Because Swiss tournaments require the first round to be fully completed before any matches in the second round can be run, there will be a strict time limit for each round. Pairings will be posted on Monday using Challonge; match results are due the following Monday by 0600 EDT/1000 GMT. This gives everyone the full weekend and into the wee hours of Sunday morning.
- If a scheduled match is unplayed, players who do not contact me will be considered dropouts. If two players find it mutually impossible to schedule a match, and both players contact me, the match will be considered a draw for scoring purposes, but will be considered a loss for tie-breaker purposes.
- Incomplete matches will be entered if three or more games have been played.
- No substitutes will be entered into a bracket after the first round's pairings are posted.
I think that's all that is needed. If you feel you need rules clarifications, let me know. If you'd like to play, please sign up below! Make sure you indicate your isotropic username if it's different from your forum name; however, forum names will be entered in the brackets for ease of communication.
NEW INFO- Sign-ups are open until 09 June 2012 at 0600 EDT/1000 GMT.
- If there are fewer than 64 sign-ups, everyone will play; the two brackets will be evenly split, rather than being 30+ and 30- or something similar.
- Otherwise, positions will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis; exceptions may be made for previous semifinalists or other high-ranking players at my discretion.
