Weekly Design Contest #226: The Count! (Judging complete)

Weekly Design Contest #226: The Count!

In honor of my four-year-old, whose favorite Sesame Street character is The Count: design a card or landscape that generally requires counting something.

Examples include Gardens, Vineyard, Marquis, Magnate, Menagerie, Forge (when you trash multiple cards; Remodel alone wouldn't fit the spirit), Philosopher’s Stone (though your card should be quicker to resolve than this IRL), etc.

Your submission can have up to two card-shaped things if desired, such as an Heirloom/kingdom card, or card with an artifact, but not a whole traveler line.

Entries must be submitted by 5:00 PM UTC on Tuesday August 6. I'll try to have results posted by that Thursday.

"Who's your favorite TV vampire."
"The one from Sesame Street."
"I don't think he counts."
"I can assure you he does."

Combine
Action | $5
Trash two cards from your hand. Gain a card that costs up to the total cost in $ of the trashed cards.

Party
Action - $2
+1 Card
+$1
+<1>, then +1 Action per <> you have
Why this mess with Coins and Debt instead of simply: "+1 Action per Party you player this turn"?

You could theoretically save Debt for a future turn to pile up a lot of Actions? It's not much of a use, but it is a use.

or +1 Buy and trash this for +$1 per token on the Ranch mat, but minimum $2,
and if the Ranch mat has less than six token, add two tokens.

Ranch • Mat
When you add your first token to this on your turn, +1 Coffers and +1 Villager.

Here is my entry - a Treasure that counts the tokens on the Ranch mat. The only way to get tokens on the Ranch mat is to sacrifice a Cattle. Since one player's sacrifice benefits all, you can use these as expensive Silvers until you are ready to sacrifice them.

I'm open to discussing the cost of this card. Though in my mind, it should absolutely cost a certain amount of Debt.

Yes, it can gain (one) Province per turn if you work hard enough for it. It's a feature, not a bug.

Interactions with other debt cards and a few fun synergies like Fortune, Capital City and Storyteller.

Gondor calls for aid!

You can get unbounded terminal draw, but lighting the Beacons takes time (though it's faster when you're under attack). Note: Each player has their own Beacon mat; I'll maybe mock one up later.

Edit: For some reason I can’t see the image on my phone unless I click the Imgr link, so i’ll add the text here in case anyone can’t see it either:

Frontier (Landmark)

After the game ends, there's an extra round of turns during which you can't buy Victory cards, and get +1VP per card in your hand at Clean-up.

It takes a lot of time indeed: The first twelve plays can at best draw 36 cards (adding 6 tokens to draw 6*6 cards), like twelve Smithies but heavily delayed. With 16 plays you can draw up to 8*8=64  cards, like 16 (heavily delayed) Hunting Grounds.

So you have to go all in for this pile, and try to prolong the game as far as possible...

You cannot apply such simple additive logic. Build-up cards are usually undervalued.

Redacted. figured out a card i like more

v2

Quote
Racketeer
$5 Action - Attack - Duration

At the start of your next turn, +1 Card, +3 Actions.

Until then, at the start of each other players Cleanup phase, they count the Action card they have the most copies of in play and exiles a copy of it that they would discard from play.
(If its a tie, then they choose.)

Edit: Clarified the wording and tried to make it match improve. added art.

An Ally: Benefactor

Edit: Changed wording and now just Action cards are affected.

This wording is confusing. Do you perhaps mean: "+2 Coffers unless you have more copies of Town Square in play than you bought this turn."

I feel like it should give more options, even if the options are bad.

Suggestions for what they could be: put that a card from your hand onto your deck(or maybe it could be “set it aside for next turn”?);gain a spoils; gain a will o wisps (this option is probably too good)  ; discard the top card of your deck and look through your discard pile, putting a card from it onto your deck.

Idk if these are good ideas but i just feel that you will have more then 3 differently named cards in your hand a lot of the time

So what? Nothing stops you from picking the same option multiple times.

All these ideas have merit but would make my card for too wordy.

I tried.

I agree with segura that it is confusing. It’s not clear to me what the card is intended to do.

Yes. Is there perhaps a clearer wording?
