The poll makes no allowance for the Republic of Ireland.
Nor Iceland, Cyprus or Malta!
The term "continental Europe" is misleading in this way, since I think it just means in this case "non-UK Europe", even though Ireland is more closely related to the UK than the old central European powers.
I think Cyprus and Malta count as Continental Europe. Both are as close to the non-island portion of Europe as Crete is to mainland Greece, and closer than Sardinia, Corsica, or the Balearics, as well as closer than Key West is to Florida. Alas, poor Iceland, though.
At the same time, the poll also leaves no room for the Pacific Islands (e.g. Fiji, Tonga)
