I got my first couple boxes of Dominion a few years ago now, and over the last few years worked up to the eight I have now and I have my eye on the remaining few. My older sets (especially base cards) are rather noticeably more used than my newer sets. Recently I've been liking the idea of sleeving my games. Should I bother going back and sleeving all my Dominion cards even though some of my cards are starting to be visibly aged?

I really like Secret Path, but I agree it could be non-terminal, and I definitely think Monarch is a bit weak.

I think that if the contest type is being changed, it should be in a new thread.

I think it would be fine to design a card specifically to be used in certain contexts if there was a good enough reason. It wouldn't be as cool as having a card useful in all contexts but if there's a really good reason for it then sure, why not.

Actually this gives me an idea for a contest. Something like, design a card that adds something else to the supply, such as:

Scouts
$5 Action
+1 Action
Gain a Scout to your hand.
-
Setup: Add Scout to the supply.

Edit: I myself have almost never played full random. There are certain cards I'll only play with on rare occasion, such as Chapel, and I almost always only randomize about half the set after making sure there's a village, a trasher, a +buy, etc, because that's just the way I like it.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm going to repurpose the original $6 for a full traveller line later. I went with grep's half-page for this line, and I weakened the second card to a workshop attack. The names are not great, their just so it's easier to discuss for now.
This brings me to an interesting question about feedback on cards. If I basically steal grep's suggestion, is it really my card design to claim?

Variants and Fan Cards / Short Traveller line
« on: September 09, 2020, 01:50:42 pm »
Here's a short traveller line.

Servant
$4 Action-Traveller
+2 Cards
+1 Buy
-
When you discard this from play, you may exchange it for a (next card).

Informant
$5* Action-Attack-Traveller
Gain a card costing up to $4. Each other player discards a copy of it, or reveals a hand with no copies.
-
When you discard this from play, you may exchange it for a (next card).
(This is not in the Supply.)

Henchman
$6* Action-Duration
For the rest of the game, at the start of your turn, choose one: +1 Card; +1 Action; +1 Buy; or + $1.
(This stays in play. This is not in the Supply.)

Here's a new entry, now with image. I might revise Renovate later.

9
A card that utilizes gathering style mechanics, like Sinister Plot
sinister plot has unique token piles for everyone, how's that a gathering-style mechanic?
I guess I just mean any card that gathers tokens into a pile or piles.

10
A Victory card that would fit thematically in Menagerie
A Reaction with a new trigger, like Patron
A Way that uses another set's mechanics
A Landmark/Event/Project that would fit in a set without them.
A non-attack Curser/Hexer
A Reaction-Attack
A Victory card split pile
A Castle-like split pile where every card is different, but not VP
A short traveler line (to be simpler)
A Night card that has to do with Potions
A way of playing a Horse without returning it
A Gathering-type card
A card that gathers tokens but functions differently than normal gathering cards
This is simply too much fun
A thanksgiving/fall themed card
A thematic card
A card that would belong in the Base set
A card that would belong in the Cornucopia/Guilds mixed box if it was a single set
A lab variant for $2 (somehow)
A card using Spoils
A village that you don't want to spam
A $7 or more cost card
An overpay card
Somebody make me stop
A weird debt cost card
A spirit and a card to get it
A Victory-Attack
A discard your hand card like Minion or Scholar
Weird cost cards like Animal Fair
A card that combos with Capitalism in a way that breaks the game completely
A card or card-shaped thing that gives a reason to trash Provinces/Colonies
An Attack that hands out Gold to each player

New entry:

Develop and Doctor had a love child. Seems too strong though. If I pay 3 in the opening to get rid of 2 Coppers (Bonfire), I am most definitely paying 4 to get rid of 2-3 junk cards.
Is it good if it trashes two? Also, it gets weaker after the first shuffle or two since you don't always get your junk at the top of the deck.

I mean, I have an older thread (and another one I forgot about) that I used to update and has older versions of most of these cards. I remembered I could check that so I have the original version of Anvil back. But that's really it. I should probably do something else too.

Also, I have an idea for a landmark but I have two versions. Actually it was inspired by one of the current contest cards, Glamour or something. Like this:
When you play a card from the chosen pile, take 2vp from here.
-
Setup: add an extra Kingdom card pile costing $2 to the Supply. Cards from that pile cost $2 more this game.  That is the chosen pile.

This was the idea, a variation on Obelisk. Then I realized, the cost thing probably isn't necessary. Also, the wording is a bit weird. Thoughts?

EDIT: Just read a few more.  I like Anvil/Tool.
That's funny, I seem to have just deleted Anvil by mistake. I know the top was Peddler but villager instead of Action. What was the rest? I can't find the old file.
It was there just a couple minutes ago. I think it was something like "While this is in play, when you play a Tool, you may trash a card from your hand."
Yeah just after I saw your comment I went back up to check what it was and it was gone. I must have messed it up when I was replacing Craftsman Village with Blacksmith.
That sounds about right.

I've only read a few of these so far, but I like Raise and Deposit. I like Cook too, but I think it might be strong for $5, and maybe okay at $6. There was an outtake from the official sets which was +2 Cards and +$2, and Donald said it was strong and uninteresting. Cook is more interesting but also a little stronger.
...Then again, newer official cards are generally stronger than old ones (on average), and that outtake was not from a recent expansion, so maybe Cook is fine at $5. And Paddock is +$2 and +2 horses (which is a delayed +2 cards). (but personally, I think Paddock becomes OP when there's any empty piles and delayed draw is not quite as good as not-delayed draw.)
Now that I think about it, I think when I first posted Cook on my old thread people said it was too strong but I never got around to changing it. What if I just add +buy and make it 6? It's not a huge change but you're saying it's on the line between them.

Made a few changes here. Just a shot in the dark. Thoughts?
I don't know if it's just me, but I can't see this image. Can you re-upload it or post a text version please?
Sorry, I think I accidentally deleted it. I'm probably going to come up with an entirely new entry, but here it was:

Fish
$2 Treasure
$1
+2 Cards. Discard 2 cards. If either of them was an Action, +1 Coffer.
-
When you gain this, put it onto your deck.

Fixed Scientist, Developer (now Raise), Haunted Mansion (for coloring), and Craftsman.
Additionally, I've been experimenting with spacing on the card generator. Which of the two versions of Raise looks closer to official cards?

With Craftsman Village, I see where you're coming from thinking it should be +3 cards. I personally just like putting effects like that on villages, I find it aesthetically interesting (most of these cards will never even get tested). Do you think it's too strong or weak? Otherwise I'll leave it as is.

Raise: I think the newer official cards have a larger text, so similar to the version on the left; the older have a smaller text like the version on the right. I personally think it is more a matter of taste. Sometimes, it looks better (to me) when the text is a bit smaller, but with different instructions being better separated. With Raise, I don't see this problem; so the version on the left looks more like newer official cards.

Craftsman Village: I don't think it is too strong. I just thought that Craftsman has a similar discard-gain mechanic and thus that it would be more distinct to combine it on the Craftsman Village with terminal drawing, which in my opinion also looks more interesting even when not considering the existence of Craftsman.
I try not to compare similar cards, if when considered in a world without the other it is interesting. There's definitely a stronger argument to be made for +3 Cards, but like I said I just like the village version for no particular reason.

That being said, while writing this I thought about it a bit more and the two cards are really more similar than they were in their first iterations in my head. I think I'm going to change Craftsman Village to something different but similar, and add a +3 Cards version.

I think this is interesting. I'm not a great judge of strength, but it might be too strong in a game with half decent trashing. Particularly with the top-decking.

Fish
Types: Treasure
Cost: $2
$1, +2 Cards.
When you gain this, put it onto your deck.
If you have no Actions in your deck, this is Laboratory+Peddler in one card which will turn some heads at its printed cost of $2.
Is it a problem with the cost or the card itself? Also, thanks for all the feedback you provide.
Mainly the cost. I had a card* similar to this one (but very slightly stronger) that cost $5 (or $4 under certain conditions). The other thing is that it sucks to draw Action cards in your buy phase when you can't play them (usually), so my card also had something like "Put up to 2 cards from your hand on top of your deck."**
I know it sucks to draw actions in the buy phase, that's the general idea and is why it costs $2.I think it might be too strong in BM but too weak in Engines. Is it too weak if I have it only draw the first time each turn?

If you play multiple you already know the top card, is that intentional?
