Weekly Design Contest / Re: Weekly Design Contest Thread
« on: August 31, 2020, 02:17:22 pm »

Here's a modified version of a card that I invented last week.
Shouldn't it be "shuffle into your deck"? Or do you mean "put it on top of your deck"?
Yes, thank you. Fixed to 'onto'.

Are you intending this to work differently than Nomad Camp in terms of visiting the discard pile? As worded, this goes to your discard pile and is then moved onto your deck, which is different than Nomad Camp which never visits your deck. It's different when combined with various "when gain" abilities.
I forgot that Nomad Camp had a different wording, I'll change it to match.

I changed Developer to this:

Maybe it should cost $3.

Highwayman (Action, $4)

+$2
+1 Buy
------
When you gain this, you may play it.

Turn your opening into 4-3-2, if you want it. How many Silver+ cards can your deck bear?
I think this is a bit too similar to Nomad Camp, and probably a bit weaker.

Added Fish and Ram. With Ram, as written you could reveal the same Ram multiple times per gain, which is not the intention. The idea is that if I ever actually play with it my group will just not do that. I'm really unsure about the top part's strength and the cost.

Does the existence of Tactician make Ram broken or just have good synergy? You can buy a card, then reveal Ram, playing Tactician, discarding your hand after having already bought a card.

Definitely just good synergy. There are now a lot of ways to play cards after you buy a card. March and Gamble are simple examples. Innovation seems way crazier with Tactician.
Okay. I'm not completely caught up on the last two expansions.

Thanks for the response, I'll try to address it all eventually.
First of all: Is there a wording for Ram that would allow it to trigger multiple times per turn but avoiding the infinite reveal?
Also, I left at play a card instead of Action card so that you could do neat tricks with playing types of cards in different phases than usual.

Edit: Second, I changed the newly-named Craftsman to say costing exactly as much.
Edit: Third, I changed the temporarily-named Guild to a different effect that doesn't have scaling problems, though it's just something random off the top of my head, I don't know how balanced it is.
Edit: Thought better about Snowy Market.

Here's my first batch of new ideas since getting back on here

Guild
$3 Action-Duration
Now and at the start of your next turn: +1 Card. Discard 2 cards. If you did, +2 Coffers.
During this turn and your next turn, you may spend a coffer for +1 Buy.

Guild is a placeholder name.
Really not sure about this or any of these really, their mostly about the main concept rather than the specifics.

Ram
$4 Action-Reaction
+3 Cards
Discard 2 cards.
-
When you gain a card during your turn, you may reveal this from your hand to play a card from your hand.

I was looking at Menagerie and I thought of this as a twist on cards like Sheepdog. There's no real reason it's named Ram.

Fish
$2 Treasure
$1
+2 Cards

I think this is interesting. I was trying to think of a card to go with the name fish. I wanted it to be a copper variant, and fishing always makes me think of drawing, so here it is.

Craftsman
$3 Action
Discard a card. Gain a non-Victory card costing exactly as much as it.

Something I came up with as I was typing these up. No idea how good it is.

also here's my sea hag. makes it closer to old witch and borrows a bit from Lookout.

I think this takes too much away from the brutality of Sea Hag. Obviously there´s room for brutality to be taken away buy I think this is a bit much.

$3 Action-Duration
During this turn and next turn, you may spend a coffer for +1 Buy.
While this is in play, when anyone gains a card costing $5 or more, +1 Coffers.

How's this for a card? I've no idea about name, and cost I'm not real clear on cost either. I'd say in a three player game you'd average 2 coffers per play, then if you spend one for a buy and it only really comes out to +1 Coffers, +1 Buy. I'd like a second perspective.

My first try; an heirloom for Junk Dealer after nobody bought Junk Dealer in a game yesterday because we were afraid of not having things to trash, and it does some other neat tricks like Fortress:

Scrap Metal
$0 Treasure-Heirloom
$1
When you trash this, you may put it into your hand.

Should probably cost $2 so it's useful with TfB.
I forgot heirlooms could cost more than $0, thanks.

I did not expect to come here and read a page and a half of that argument. I was just trying to make a Scout type of joke.

Sorry if it seems like I was laughing at your card, I was just making a joke to describe what I think it's problem is.
I think its problem is that it puts Thief on the board.

I haven't read all of them too carefully yet, but I think Barbarian should be an Attack, and there's already a card-shaped thing called Alliance.
I had Alliance before Alliance was a thing, and I forgot I had never gotten around to fixing Barbarian. I'm having trouble uploading images right now, so I'll only be able to actually change the images once a week or so, but I'll get these fixed soon.

One last shot:

Cleric
$4 Action
+2 Coffers
You may trash a card from your hand, then you may spend any number of coffers to trash that many cards from your hand.

Abbey
$5 Action
Choose one: +2 Villagers; or you may spend any number of Villagers to trash that many cards from your hand.

Quick new submission, how about this?

This could cost less.
I don't know; I feel like it might compare too favorable to Hideout at $4.

Not sure if anyone else has mentioned this old RBCI card:

Attic
$2 Action
+1 Action
Draw any number of cards, then discard that many.

Usurer
$6 Action
Choose one: +1 Buy; or take any number of Coffers up to 5, and at the start of your buy phase, spend all of your coffers, and for each $1 you have unspent at the end of your turn, take 1 debt.

Just something off the top of my head to get me back in the game. Back when I joined the forum this was still on its second contest, I had no idea it would go this long.

Edit: changed wording and cost.

This feels like the "any number" wording is forced. Why doesn't this card just say "up to 5 coffers"? I know that would disqualify it from this contest, but the wording is still awkward.
I kind of forgot about that, originally I had a slightly different concept that had no limit, but it seemed a bit nuts. It probably doesn't count.

Ignoring that the card is obviously too good, there is no reason to use Coffers instead of Coins (Black Market is the only thing I see now which would make a mechanical difference) if you are forced to spend them. Thus the only thing this achieves is to make tracking easier.
I'd like to avoid the interactions with Storyteller, and I think the wording is slightly better.
As far as the strength, it's just a shot in the dark. How about at $6?

It seems like I might become active again here, so I wanted to curate my collection a bit. I took out some cards from my fan card page. Some I might bring back, and some of these might get changed too. I just wanted to trim enough of the fat to be getting on with.
To do: rename Alliance to Treaty or something like that
