Where would you travel to meet F.DS people?

We all like to play Dominion, and I think it's safe to assume everybody here is pretty awesome, right? Well I had an opportunity to meet some F.DS people at a Dominion tournament in Michigan a while back and it was amazing. So why not at least try to meet up and play Dominion?

There are several options above: you should check all the places you might be willing to go for a weekend or something to meet F.DS people. Then after a lot of people have hopefully voted you can see who can do that and maybe it will be a starting point to organize something. Maybe it works, maybe it doesn't, but we can at least try!

If you want another place on the poll, or if something is silly and should be removed, let me know and I'll hopefully be able to change it (though I've never made a poll here before so maybe not).

For me, it's a maybe on New York.  It's out of range from my school, but when I'm at home it would work.but I voted it anyways

I think we should all just go on JoCo Cruise Crazy 5. There's a 24-hour game room, plus entertainment. A week of Dominion!

I live in the Denver area. Everything is probably too far to drive, especially if I'm leaving my wife behind.
Much more likely we'd be able to take a trip to New York and while we're already there I could spend a day playing Dominion. Still not super likely, but possible around May 9-31 or July-early August.

Ooooh... tempted.

I voted for everything. Just need a month's forewarning for any event and I'll make it work.

Selecting a cruise that everyone can agree on sounds like a very practical, wise solution.

I have wanted to go on Joco Cruise Crazy for the last 3 years, but have been unable (my wife's school / residency schedule killed it basically).  Still holding out for next year...

On a more general note: I would try my best to go to any F.DS event (at least in the USA) but there's just no telling!  My life is sadly not that conducive to traveling these days.  Major cities that are the best fits for me include: Columbia, SC; Atlanta, GA; Washington, DC; Philadelphia, PA; Tampa, FL.  Why?  Well, because I have relatives and such I can crash with easily to cut down on planning complications.  :P

AdamH, could you perhaps add Caribbean Cruise to the poll (and allow us to recast votes)?

As a resident of Washington State (well, not right now, but legally still) I object to you calling D.C. Washington without the suffix.

I could maybe do D.C. or NY before the end of the school year (mid May for me) or after it starts again (September). I only checked Germany because there's a chance that I do research there this summer.

Wow, what a response. I put this up, go to sleep, and then I have a bunch of responses already! I really didn't think it would get this kind of response at all...

In general, I'd say if it's a maybe (anything other than a flat "no") then you should vote for it.

AdamH, could you perhaps add Caribbean Cruise to the poll (and allow us to recast votes)?

I added the options. There was a box for resetting all the vote counts to zero, that appears to be the only way to allow re-casting of votes -- is this what we want?

No. Before your update, the "Remove Vote" option was available for each of us. Now it's not. Can you edit the poll and check "Allow changes to votes" or whatever?

Geez, this is crazy.  I had a dream AdamH and I were running FDSCon and had drawn up impromptu tournament seeds on a whiteboard...  GET OUT OF MY HEAD.  The most distinct part of the dream was me explaining the rules of Black Market.  You could opt to veto it, play with the randomizer deck, or actually spend the time to get the individual cards out.  Also, people only brought enough sets for seven of the pairs, so one group had to play on Goko wearing dunce hats.  It was the most vivid dream I can recall having in several months.

Other attendants included: Robz, Kirian, theory, Rabid (the only one from out of the country), shark bait, and I can't remember the rest.  Kirian looked like the alchemist from isotropic.

Impressive. Do you hate Black Market just like I do? Was my amazing box in your dream? I especially like the dunce hats -- I'm really hoping they had to play base only for the lolz.  :P

Oh hey that reminds me, I think I'm going to be able to stream/play some Dominion this Saturday afternoon: maybe we can try to put together that best-of-one single-elimination "tournament" that was talked about a couple of weeks ago...

I actually like Black Market, but the problem was that we were trying to finish the tournament as quickly as possible, so it was necessary to lay down ground rules about the most tedious set up card.  MY awesome box was in the dream, but I don't remember others.

The dunce hats were one of those hilarious things I'd never actually come up with because I'm not that funny, but apparently my subconscious is.

My life is complete.  I have been part of another F.DS members dream.

I will be wowed if my dream self was advocating for a 25-card BM made from the randomizer deck.  If so, my dream self is like my real self.  Yes you can see the blue backs which could come in handy in select circumstances but it makes set up so much simpler.

That is what I was recommending because that's how I play with Black Market IRL.  I don't even pay attention to the backs when shuffling.

And where on this list exactly is Tuvalu?

Or is it because it would be too obvious with our dreamy beaches, Guano Exporting factory tours, Shuffleboard World Championships, ongoing war of words with Vanatu and many many other things

Some of the choices seem very specific (Detroit, Sydney), others seem ENORMOUS (Germany and Texas aren't just places you can be in - it takes several hours to traverse them (the same is true of a Caribbean cruise, but I assume you'd plan the cruise to go together, with how it's worded), UK you actually have to cross a significant amount of water to get from say London to Belfast), others are vague (is Washington the state or the District of Columbia? New York city or State? etc.)

You are right on all accounts. I'm not trying to work out specifics, but more just trying to gauge interest. People were talking about Europe in the other thread but weren't being more specific, so I tried to approximate. I realize I didn't do the best job in the world at it.

Washington was intended to be the state, New York, well I don't know.

Chicago would be super cool.

I have the free time to put together some sort of meetup. Let me think about this. I see it was one of the most popular choices.

Chicago is definitely going to happen. I'm working on sorting out a location right now. Once I have that nailed down, I'll create a thread for people to vote on a date!

Is anyone interested in making something in San Francisco or Washington happen this summer? I'll be in Seattle May 18-31 and again August 15-29 and Palo Alto June 1-August 9. In Seattle I'll have fair amounts of free time and access to a car. I'm doing research at Stanford in Palo Alto, but I'll be free on weekends probably though constrained to public transport and a bike.

To the 6 others who said they'd do a San Francisco meet-up, is anyone interested in hosting something? I have no ability to host, but I'm an hour train ride away from SF and would love to do something dominion-related this summer. I brought all my cards with me, but have had no opportunity to use them.

So Caribbean cruise is the closest I'm going to get to Walt Disney World? I'm probably the only person that looked at the list and tried to determine the closest amusement parks.

I'm in San Diego but I'll hop up for a weekend if something's happening (July is booked for me though)

Is anyone in the DC or Virginia area?

I just moved to the area (Oakland) but couldn't really host a large gathering.  I did not bring my dominion collection yet (nor my cat, for that matter)

Anyone from the UK want to do this? I mean, there's 9 of us, and the UK isn't that big, so should be easy, right? I would so be up for this, but probably don't have the planning skills to actually make this happen.

I will be in San Francisco (CA, US) next year and would definitively participate. Do not know yet if I can host, it depends on where I end up living.

If there's interest, I could put up a PNW-specific poll. Assuming "Washington" means the D. of C., there aren't any options within 600 miles of me.

We've got a lot of us who could make it to Pittsburgh, anything going to happen this summer?  Anyone up to meet near Pittsburgh?

I think Washington was actually supposed to mean the state. I'll be back in Seattle for the latter half of August if people are up for something.

And it has seventeen votes, too. In that case it might make sense to narrow it down to a city rather than a state.

It's quite likely that a number of other people also thought it meant DC though and voted accordingly.

That's even more of a reason to do it. I'd also like to see if there's enough demand for a Portland meetup, and to find out if anyone actually lives in Idaho.

If anyone is coming to the SPIEL fair in Essen in October, we could meet up there.
