I'm a Jonathan Tweet fanboy. I heard so much about Over the Edge, and when I bought it, I read the whole thing twice. Very fun system and world. I also bought Ars Magica, though I've never been brave enough to run it. I tried playing Ars Magica at a convention, but that system is designed for home campaigns and not really one-shots. I do have Everway, but again I've not been brave enough to run it. Never played it either. So sad. And, of course, D&D 3rd Edition broke away from the stagnant quagmire of 1st/2nd Edition because of Tweet.
So when I heard that 13th Age was co-written by Tweet, I had to pick it up. It veers away from d20 in some areas, a fact that the rulebook gleefully tells you, which can be annoying. Still, it's a neat system, and it's more story-friendly than most games out there. This game isn't for everyone. Just like Over the Edge, 13th Age has some openness in the skills department. And if you have a player who tries to have a "Good at Everything" skill, then you just need to smack him around.
