I think that wanting to give yourself an out for when you're drinking, at least when it comes to stupid cases like typos, is reasonable.  That said, I intend to be drinking, but I also intend to be quite wary of people pretending to be drunk to shed suspicion.  I dont think Sparky was trying to look more drunk than he is.  Whether or not he intends to try to employ that strategy later as scum is a different discussion.
