Hm. Interesting. Was BM+Venture really better than BM+Vault? I really don't have any intuition for BM+Vault vs BM+Venture in a colony game.

Don't forget about the engine!  Quarry/Salvager/Vault/Menagerie/HoP/King's Court looks like it's quite doable.  Salvager/Quarry to trash starting deck and quickly pick up the expensive necessary components.  I'd wager it'd be quite competitive at getting the megaturn with Provinces before the BM players gets too many Colonies.

There are cards, Buys, money and trashing, so something could be done with KC.  It's the kind of set I expect Marin could work wonders on.

Restricting to BM, Vaults would have been useful and were probably the strongest opening on 5/2.  Mandarin has a cute interaction with Venture in that topdecking Victory cards or one of a set of Ventures, but isn't as strong as Vault.

Colony board with King's Court, +draw, + buy and trashing. Big Money shouldn't stand a chance.

There's the HoP/Plat/Gold/Silver/Copper + Mandarin gain combo too, which can be easily set up with KC-Vault and some Salvager trashing.

Here's my second attempt at the engine. My first one I scrapped after salvager missed the shuffle and then some other bad things happened. I could probably cut off a turn or two if I played it better.

So, the consensus is KC + versatile actions beats the crap out of BM. We knew this.

Was everyone else already aware the Venture was such an outstanding BM enabler? I would have been more impressed by solitaire runs showing faster ways to do what I did or that Vault would be consistently faster.

I would suspect a couple of vaults and ventures and big money would do much much better than straight venture/big money. Venture isn't all that great without copper trashing. Well, it's better in colony games where you have more time to build your higher priced treasures up, but still not that great.
