The things you don't realize you miss until you find them again surprise you every time.  I suppose losing your world to aliens intent on domination of your entire existence can do that.  And yet, after we won, we didn't rush right back to the things we cared about.  First we thought about the things we ought to care about.

Still, time passes.  When I stumbled upon a random smartphone, still charged, with music queued up, I could not have predicted my visceral reaction to hearing the music that I loved before the attack.  Bands that probably no longer exist, but that we don't think to ask about, Sheppard, Birds of Tokyo, all the others...hearing their music by accident released a flood of emotion by accident.

We will continue to be surprised.  We will continue to be revived.  We will continue to live.
