I believe it reads that you can only get one item per slot (slot meaning station). only exception would be of course being forced a penalty item.

Yea, I figured people would think that but the OP never actually says that, which is why I just included it in the example. I didn't ask, so maybe I'm wrong, but you should be able to get several items.

phrasing "some slots have penalty items" to me read "some stations have penalty items" actually. But I can see how it could be slot = item slot.

if you could in fact only get one item per slot, then bidding on the vig thing as town would just be strictly worse than bidding on the double vote.

What faust changed when I was confused was to phrase it in terms of numerical position. The OP now says:

Quote
After that, every player may bid on any of the items below. The player with the lowest numerical value in draft order to bid for a given slot will receive the item.

and

Quote
Some slots have penalty items. If multiple players bid for such a slot, the highest in draft order among them will recieve the penalty item instead of their original choice.

I think that is now pretty clear. If numbers 4, 7, 12, and 16 bit on one slot and 4 chose item A and 7 chose item B and 12 A or B and 16 chose whatever, then 16 gets penalty because she is highest numerical value, and then 4 gets A and then 7 gets B and 12 gets nothing. It's kinda confusing but not that confusing.

I still think it's pretty confusing. Clearly, lower number = good.

The confusing part is what "highest in draft order" means. I thought it means best in draft order, i.e. lowest number. Kind of like how Dan Brooks is the highest on the Dominion leaderboard because he has the lowest rank.

"After that, every player may bid on any of the items below. The player with the lowest numerical value in draft order to bid for a given slot will receive the item."

Items and Slots seem to be different terminology. Thus a player bids on an item within a slot, and the slot is only won by the lowest numerical bid.

I think only one item can be won from a slot, and the penalty items are "awarded" to the highest numerical bid on any given slot, with all middle bids receiving nothing.

Well again I guess why it sounds like that but I don't think it says that. the player with the l.n.v gets the item, cool. that's relevant if seveal tried to go for the same ITEM.

But why guess more? Does the setup allow for two different players to receive two different items from the same slot?

That is what it mean. One in the same. Draft pick 1 better than Draft pick 2 better than draft pick 3 (synonym = Draft pick 1 higher than Draft pick 2 higher than draft with 3)

Now you're making the same mistake as I did. In reality, draft pick 1 is better than draft pick 2, but draft pick 2 is higher than draft pick 1. That's why it's confusing.

OK I see your point. I don't know how to explain it haha sorry.

Draft position 1 is best.
Draft position 1 is also highest.
Draft position 1 has the lowest numerical value.

I think that parses.

It parses, but it doesn't match with how the setup works. The setup actually works this way:

Draft position 1 is best.
Draft position 1 is also lowest.
Draft position 1 has the lowest numerical value.

I think language barrier maybe?
Or just personal preference of terms.

I totally get your point that the number 1 is absolutely the lowest.

The only thing I can think of is that normally Drafts are run on ladder schemes, so the term "highest draft pick" normally would be used to obtain something/someone of the highest value.
