Ah, Villages! Where would we be without you? Though they rarely form the linchpin of our decks, they are crucial to most engines. But which is the best?

You're missing Coin of the Realm, Crossroads, Champion and Lost Arts.  There are also a number of cards considered to be pseudo-villages, like Herald, Golem, and Throne Room and its variants.

Wandering Minstrel. It's not even close, honestly - an engine running off Wandering Minstrel fires off sooner and more consistently than any other engine. It's one of few Villages good enough to get en masse even if you don't particularly need +Action, just on the strength of its sifting. A huge fan. In very heavy trashing games it isn't as essential, but it really helps tip a lot of boards toward engines.

Hamlet, Fishing Village, and Plaza are my other favorites. Border Village is amazing when there is no +Buy, and sometimes even when there is.

For me, it's close between Border Village, Wandering Minstrel, and Fishing Village.  I've heard good things about Lost City, but haven't played with it yet.

And Crossroads should probably be in your list.

I think you cant really answer this question in a vacuum. The different types of villages bring with them different types of bonuses and which one is Best for your engine on a given board depends heavily on the cards in that kingdom

I think a question that could be answered a bit better would be something along the lines of "which village is useful most often". Fishing village, border village and wandering minstrel would be good contenders for that i think. The First because of its cost, duration effect and synergy with draw to x, the second because you can gain engine pieces along with your village and also pull some nice Tricks with it, the third because of the reliability it adds.

I don't think of CotR as a pseudo village, although I doubt anyone would put it over Wandering Minstrel. I think an argument could be made for Champion though.

If pseudo-villages count King's Court for sure. Otherwise I'd put Inn, Border, Fishing, and Wandering Minstrel at the top.

Although I do kind of want to say Necropolis earns a spot in a "best value for what you pay for it" kind of sense...

Well, I assume we're talking about the best village compared to its price because otherwise we're talking Border Village or Lost City I think, without much question.

For its price though, I'd say Fishing Village.  C'mon guys, when was the last time you passed up one of these for 3 coins?  I pick this sometimes over silver just for the payload, but its ability to guarantee you multiple actions on your next turn is what really makes it shine.

My favourite village is probably Nobles.  Both parts of an engine in one card?  And some VP?  Yes please.

The village I overbuy too much is Shanty Town.  The phrase, "Shanty Town, Shanty Town, Shanty Town.  I have three coins.  I buy a Shanty Town," should be etched on my tombstone.

A good case has been made here for Wandering Minstrel, and I certainly agree that it's powerful.  I think it would still see a lot of action at 5.

Plaza is a real sleeper card too.  There's so many nice tricks you can pull off, like Plaza-Library and Plaza-Menagerie.  It's a great buy, and its power is not necessarily obvious at face value.
