Uh.. I don't think this should be allowed. Too much information for the spymaster if the first one is wrong.

But I could literally say anything as the guesser. Like I can say the five things I think work for bento and then only choose four of them.

Yeah, it seems fine to me. IRL the discussion among guessers is far more informative to the Spymaster and among the things that people find most enjoyable about the game. It's only a problem if a team tries to take advantage of it, e.g. asking for a certain clue if this or a different clue if that. We've self-censored a little in this game, but in general I think it's OK to voice suspicions.

I thought it was not allowed, because if it was, I would just always tell my spymaster all the words that I consider before placing a guess; not doing so seems like bad play then.

This is very true. I just thought the norm was not not saying anything so I haven't been. Normally you say all of the words you're thinking about and really talk it through your thought process

Likewise.  An easy example -- consider what the game would be like playing with teams of 3.  After the spymaster gives their clue, are you not allowed to discuss with your partner what words to guess?  Do you have to whisper to each other, or does the spymaster have to plug their ears?  Typically you just discuss freely (and the spymaster does their level best to keep a straight face).

So yeah, it's just something to leave up to discretion of the group.  A little thing like gkrieg's two guesses is totally fine IMO.  Something like, "I'm torn between these words... I'll go with this" would be fine by me too, though this group so far has mostly avoided that.

Well, it would be nice to know what's allowed and what isn't. Where is the line?

By nature, the line is fuzzy.  I guess it's up to the spymasters, yeah?  I'm saying I'm OK with stuff like pre-guessing.  If you insist, we could stop it now.  I'm fine either way.  But this "extra" info is helping you, not me, so... :P

IMO, it's just a good faith thing.  If a guesser wants to share their thoughts or hesitations or whatever, it's probably fine.  If a guesser is trying to game the system with a code or whatever else, that's bad.  I trust that nobody here has any intention of cheating.
