Those were the things I thought about for fatty too, so fatty: 4 might have worked.
I imagine it would have been rather difficult if palm and thumb didn't have the same color.
I considered
fat: 3 because "fat thumbs" is something that people sometimes talk about in reference to small touch screens, and I think small board game components too? But I thought it was too big a stretch for Palm and it was fine to play it safe. If they weren't the same colour, there were other options. My first inclination upon seeing the grid was actually to pair Palm and Oil because they are right next to each other and palm oil is a thing. So Palm could be something to do with palm trees. Even if I wanted to stick with the body part, there are ways to get palm without thumb -- sweaty palms, slapping... As for thumb, there are thumb drives (USB could make a good clue for Mount and Thumb, though it might not count as one word), likes (Facebook thumbs up), thumbing through books... I think there would have been possibilities. Having Palm and Thumb together did make it easier though, absolutely.
