Okay F.DS, I've got 3 weeks before playing an IRL tourney at U-con at which I've gotten 2nd at 2 years in a row.  Hopefully I can do better this year.  But one thing I am lacking is any clue of what to do with adventures.  So if you guys have any tidbits of advice for adventures or otter motivational tools to help me along in these next 3 weeks I would love anything that you can provide.  I'm looking forward to making a fun time at the tourney and would love for all of you to be a part of the Adventure.

Remember that +X tokens are awesome on cheap, spammable cantrips.

I'm not sure whether to applaud or to groan, so I'll compromise with a +1.

OH WAIT I just saw the title. I am now in the applaud camp. Unfortunately I haven't played Adventures so you'll have to go on this Journey with other people.

Magpie.  Always Magpie.

Always put your tokens on Magpie!!! (Or to a lesser extent, Port).

Tokens are huge. Use them! A lot!

Gear is really, really, really good.

Don't forget the Events!  Especially when you have an awkward amount of coin in your buy phase.

Giant and Ranger are musts if there's some sort of Throne Room variant on the board, particularly Royal Carriage and King's Court.

I'll take that as a mission accomplished for providing a whimsical, lighthearted approach to a thread with a serious request.  :)

Play with the cards beforehand if you have any chance. It changes the flow of the game the most with all the new mechanics, so no advice here will help you win with these cards when you never played with them before. (And I think there is already wrong advice in here, and surely there is more to come)

What is your opinion on the wrong advice?  In what ways do the new mechanics change the game flow?

If you have any terminal's you always want one or two coins of the realm on your mat. You also want a guide or two on your mat because it could save a dead turn. When dealing with travelers cycling is very important. Dungeon is generally better than warehouse.

Alright, here's some special adventures advice tailor made for people playing in the tournament.

1. Miser. Always miser.
2. If you suspect it will be your last turn but you can't end the game on a win, buy a lost city!
3. With wine merchant, moderation is key. Never call more than one at a time.
4. Inherit scout. Now your estates will draw themselves!
5. Travellers are not unwanted Christmas presents. Don't make them feel bad by exchanging them.
6. Look out for the killer combo: royal carriage/bridge troll.

Finally, whenever possible, play your knockout matches against Adam Horton. Every game one of you guys play against him is one that I won't have to ;)

No clue! Forum consensus is that it is kind of slow.

When playing a draw engine with Ranger, it's very important to make sure your Journey token ends up face down at the end of your turn. You want the first Ranger you play every turn to draw you 5 cards. Having to play two villages and two Rangers before increasing your hand size is a tall order.

Miser is just Pirate Ship that works on you instead of your opponent, while also reducing your hand size and buying power for the turn. It's about the same speed too. It's not great. If you can play it more than once a turn, or the game's gonna go long, or there's no other way to trash copper etc it's better, but it's just SO slow.

Miser, like most cards, gets better with a Throne Room variant.
