Y'all forgot Ambassador.

Presumably Scout was in the Black Market deck.

Whoever bought a Scout from the Black Market deck, just to Masquerade it over, I will buy them a drink.

Especially since Masquerade was in the Black Market deck too.

Edge case where it makes sense: It's a bad board - no extra buys (except possibly in the BM deck), only Highways for $5. You just so happened to draw $4 with four highways, a Watchtower and Black Market (obviously some on deck, drawn from the Highway) and thanks to deck tracking, you know your next hand will be mostly Duchies and Provinces, but there is also your Masquerade coming amongst the 5 cards, and it'd cause a reshuffle, if you can play it safely. So Black Market turns up Scout, you buy it for $0 and top deck it with Watchtower, then buy a Province, next turn, you Masquerade over Scout.

...Let's see if people can't put holes into this scenario.

But not strictly better, because the spinoff can have a different cost than the expansion.

Is quite curious - Who is the mystical "Celestial Chameleon"?

(and don't tell me that having $43 can't happen in a cursing game. Everything can happen in Dominion)

It can definitely happen; at the very least, if you have good trashing, then after all the curses are gone they'll soon all get trashed.

Pretty sure there's a meme out of this.

Deck has no +buy
Generates $43 on a turn.

Instead of talking about this, someone just needs to make the picture.

This image appears to be taken down... I hadn't seen it yet. I assume it was great because it got so much respect... can someone repost or explain it?

I can see it... It's Advisor, with the guy whispering in the king's ear wearing the Douchebag hat. The caption is "Psst...Discard the Platinum."

Thanks.. wonder why it's not loading for me? It had already been pointed out earlier that Advisor was the perfect card for giving bad advice... not clear to me why that one would get so much respect; maybe I'm just missing the joke?

*Edit* Thanks to Axxle, I get it now.

I was more thinking:

knows there's no +buy in deck
Builds engine to generate $43 per turn

Now I put it like that...

Well, I didn't actually reveal them. I wanted them, it was a good FG deck by then. The insanity would be trashing them into Gold, just so you can trash the Gold, all for no benefit. There's a perverse appeal to that sort of thing...

If you did that with enough confidence you might scare your opponent into thinking it's a good thing. Like never break eye contact with them throughout the whole Gold trashing process.

Clearly planning to passive-Governer Mint to Altar, using Bakers coin token or Altar to get Ambassador and play Necropolis/Ambassador/Altar to gain/trash a Catacombs and hand out a Curse every turn. The Curse is also a defensive measure to avoid being swamped by other opponents opening Mountebank and keep the engine working.

I'm sure it's exactly what theory had in mind  :)
