Dominion: Adventures Previews / Re: Preview: Storyteller
« on: March 31, 2015, 04:58:30 am »
This card impresses me. Storyteller seems to be an ok/situational card, in general nothing extraordenary strong, that has a unique mechanism in paying for draw. These are attributs i appreciate.

Although the mechanism is easy to understand, i expect it to be a high skill card and difficult to play correctly. You want to draw as many cards as you need, but want to pay as less as possible. Drawing how many cards is the most efficient choise with your current deck? 2,3,5? This will be the kind of difficult decisions to make.

I expect Storyteller to be weak in BM strategies. Drawing 3 cards for losing 2 coins seems to be an awful deal for a 5 cost card. Often there will be better draw cards for 5 available. When your money density is good and you start greening, its fine, but starts to suck quickly the greener your deck becomes.

A much better usage i expect in engines. It helps to cycle fast and even more important it will make your engine much more reliable and minors the risk of dud turns. Will Storyteller make the skip/delay of heavy trashing in engines an option for a faster setup?
I am looking forward to get answers on this questions soon.

Big thing to note is that the pile will probably run really fast really often.

It can pile itself if you want to, if you can manage to draw your deck and put lets says 2 magpies in your discard.

My impression was totally different reading the whole post. Since you have played with that card, i also hope you overestimate it.

Except Stef already played the full set afaik

Maybe, i dont know, but i have not.

... you can scratch all the maybe's, mights and decents from this paragraph.

I am surprised of this advise. One hour after releasing its too early to scratch them. How often even good players thought in past, this card is much too strong and will have a huge negative impact on the game while it has not.

Lost City looks really strong.  If somebody had posted this as a fan card, I would probably have commented that the drawback did not seem to be enough.  I am either overestimating the vanilla bonuses or underestimating the drawback, probably a little of both.

Let's compare Council Room and Lost City:

-CR has on *on play* penalty.  You can get however many you want, but you have to be careful playing them.
-LC has an *on gain* penalty.  Be careful getting them, but once you have them, have a ball.

But which penalty is worse?  The CR penalty happens more often, but not until you've actually gotten a use out of the card.  The LC penalty only happens once, but you might not be able to use the card at all if it's too close to the end of the game.

I am not a fan of this comparision, but if you do so i think the council room penalty is much more worse.
Even if a penalty earlier hurts more than later in the game, you want to play a council room mostly at least 4-5 times in the game. So the worse lost city penalty will get eaten up quickly by the multiple CR-penalties.
The main argument might be, that games, where council rooms were used, are in most cases village-draw engines. These engines are heavily dependant on the realibility of having village-draw in hand, that a 6th card benefits your opponent disproportionately.

I already like the magpie a lot. The art is very nice and it seems simple to play (no hard decisions to make once bought).
Its a bit comparable to vagrant, but much stronger, as you get another magpie, if you dont hit a treasure. In early game one of the seldom case you might want your card not to hit. The hitting chance is much higher in early game than with vagrant.
So it looks like a decent opener if you expect the game to last long, especially in slogs.
Magpie might also enable engines if there is no copper trashing available.

Is it just me, or is this season looking incredibly stacked?

Yeah, seems to become the most challenging season so far. Exactely one seat is open. I'd like to watch some more relaxed, extra-long streams. So, jump in :)

Man, eHalcyon. Not everyone in this forums is a native english speaker and thats fine.

I am proud to speak five languages more the less fluently, but only in my mother language i have something like a sensible feeling for the nuances of the language. I learned a lot of different poems and metres in school, but in my cultural circle haiku is none of em. I assume in Burning Skull`s neither. So, a little bit more patience would be fine.

I don't think I've been harsh in pointing it out.  In the case of Burning Skull's three, none of them were even close, so I literally wasn't sure if he was serious.  If you don't know what a haiku is, it's easy to find out online.  Is counting syllables really so difficult for non-native English speakers?

For the record, English is technically not my first language either (though it is my most fluent).

For me I can say, yes you are right, i could have informed myself what a haiku exactely is. I just was lazy and assumed its a short poem with three lines.  I dont think either you were harsh but neither inviting. I like the way, Witherweaver did it. He explained haiku after recognizing that not everyone get it right.

This isn't new.

It certainly didn't exist at the time of this challenge, so in Goko time it's almost as new as their latest bug!

New or not. The original post is very entertaining written.

I have an idea for the standing topic.

Why not having some "statistics" of the previous seasons. I mean a page where you can put all the winners and 2nd of the league with the score, and other things with leaderboards (winners, number of participation in each division...)

I thougth about that because now we are going to play season 7, and i cant say who were the previous winners (i know there a lot of Mic's and some Stef's victories... but not the number!)

I like that idea. Something like an All-Time Table either just for the A-League or for the total league could be interesting, too. And maybe an "Honour-List" for that players, who didnt missed a single season yet.

We had a very good laugh when Duke came out. Why would you ever buy that?

I really, really hope that feeling about cards repeats in the next weeks. The discovery, that you value cards totally wrong.
Man, its great to have a thrill of anticipation like a child 3 days before Christmas. Cant wait for new Adventures.

Nice impulse, Flipside. I have the feeling this thread and some of Wero got the discussion into motion a bit.

I'd take Minstrel/Steward over double Steward 100% of the time.

Just pick up another Steward on T3/4, and Minstrels cycling combined with the fact that you don't have to play a Steward for coins to hit 4 (since you already have the Minstrel) any time soon ensures that you'll draw your deck faster than with a double Steward open.

+1. WM/Ambassador over double ambassador as well 100%

Goko Dominion Online / Re: Really Low Iso Level Players on Goko
« on: March 25, 2015, 06:06:03 am »
For some reason, my Iso rank displays for me (and others?) as -54, but I'm level 25 on the actual leaderboard??

This seems to happen to a bunch of players. I recently played against Aruru8. His level on isotropish is 26, but he is displayed at Salvager as Level -28. This seems to be a bug in Salvager.
