Tournaments and Events / Re: Dominion Empires -- Europe?
« on: July 04, 2016, 04:58:01 pm »
Too bad, but I wont be able to make it. I hope everyone behaves well so it doesn't become a one time thing ;)

I hope so, too. Watno has already booked the first guest bed, and I hope for a few more Forum regulars.

Maybe there should be an announcement in the general discussion board? I think that would attract more people. I don't really want to invite lots of people to your house myself though.

Okay, have done so. Now we'll see if the moderators move it to Tournaments and Events...

Dominion General Discussion / Empires Release Party in Germany
« on: June 28, 2016, 05:21:05 pm »
On Saturday & Sunday, July 16th/17th, you can play Empires IRL in Karlsruhe, Germany.

A coworker from Portland, OR, brought me a copy last week. We can play at my place at up to 4 tables, so with sharing the Empire cards each table can have a few of them each game. My other Dominion cards are all in German, however, so bring your own if you prefer English.

Please post in http://forum.dominionstrategy.com/index.php?topic=15465.0 or send me a PM if you want to join, so I can send you directions.
I'll ask for special food and drinks requirements closer to that date. A gas barbecue will be available.
There are one guest bed and at least 3 additional mattresses if you want to stay overnight and don't prefer to book a hotel room.

On the box, the EU distributors are listed (only with snail mail addresses): Bergsala Enigma Denmark A/S and Esdevium Games Ltd in the UK. Maybe you can get some info from Hampshire?

Just got my copy from a coworker from Portland, OR, who bought it at his FLGS before flying to Germany. Is this the first copy in Europe?  ;D

Okay, then let's make it July 16th/17th. The Empires box has arrived today - thanks to my coworker from Portland, OR, so we are all set.
I guess we can easily accomodate three or four parallel games with that one box. Beyond this, I'm running out of tables anyway...
Please post here or send me a PM if you want to join, so I can send you directions.

Sure, it is short notice, but that comes with the possibly first IRL play of Empires in Europe...  8)

I will certainly play Empires that weekend, provided I have the cards. Even if nobody from the Forum can make it (faust, I take your post still as a "maybe"). I had a games evening scheduled for the 25th anyway.

teamrocketgrunt told me he cannot make it that weekend, but he might join in a few weeks later. July 16th/17th, 23rd/24th or 30th/31st would work for me, too, and from August 5th to 14th there is a small games convention ("Zine-Con") in Höchst (Odenwald) where I hope to play lots of Dominion.

So if you want to join in on June 25th/26th, please tell me, and if one of the other dates works better for you, please do so as well.

If it's gonna happen in Germany, I'd almost be tempted to come... Still probably a long drive, and I'm not sure I could get a car for this trip..
I might coem to some place in Germany, not sure though.
I live in Mannheim. I could come to such a meeting if it's open to all  :).. Depends on the day, though.
Northern Germany is great; I'm in Berlin. I might also come to a meeting in southern Germany, though I didn't plan to go there until like end of July. I guess I might be willing to change plans.

Wow. It really looks like we have to do the European release party in Karlsruhe. If I get my copy of Empires on Monday 20th as expected, we could play at my place on the weekend 25th/26th. There are one guest bed and at least 3 additional mattresses if you want to stay overnight and don't prefer to book a hotel room. There will be quite a few European Cup round of 16 matches on that weekend, too, so be prepared for a TV running in parallel (you are not required to watch). And my other Dominion cards are all in German. If that doesn't bother you and if you want to come, please PM me, so I can send you directions.

I hope to have it in Karlsruhe, (Southern) Germany, within a week. A coworker from Portland, OR, has promised to bring it with him, provided the FLGS still has a copy...

Rules Questions / Re: Can I reveal Trader when I gain it?
« on: May 28, 2016, 08:23:43 am »
The wording is sort of ambiguous on Transmogrify, but the intent is that the card goes straight to your hand, not that it visits the discard pile (or wherever).

In the German version of the card, the translation has gone wrong a bit, unfortunately [translated back by yours truly]:
At the start of your turn, you may call this from your tavern mat. If you do: Trash a card from your hand and gain a card costing up to 1 more than the trashed card. Put that card into your hand.

If this was the English card text, I assume the gained card would actually visit the trash. And the reaction option effect of Market Square would need to happen before the last sentence of Transmogrify, so Transmogrify would lose track of the gained card because it is concealed by the discarded Market Square and a Gold.

As far as I know the English rules take precedence, however, so I will just tell my playing group how Transmogrify works with Market Square without explaining it by the German card text. Correct?

Rules Questions / Re: Disciple on Band of Misfits
« on: May 23, 2016, 08:22:55 pm »
Thanks! That was exactly the explanation I needed. The emphasis is on the action card, the specific piece of paper. Yeah, that makes sense now.

Even if it's not exactly the same concept as the cost reduced by Highway for Swindler.  8)
It's obvious that the cost of the card is checked immediately after the card has been trashed by Swindler.
It's not as obvious that Disciple doesn't remember which card it originally played but checks its name later again. After all, even Conspirator remembers that a BoM has been played, correct?

Rules Questions / Re: Disciple on Band of Misfits
« on: May 23, 2016, 06:18:43 pm »
Okay, I've found it. Unfortunately, it's not only a ruling (which might be reverted) but it's in the Dark Ages rulebook. :(

So, Throne Room variants (including Disciple) don't remember that they have played a BoM (which would have been the intuitive way and which would have avoided the exception for a self-trashing BoM) but they check again what that card "is" now (the selected one if it is still in play) when they play it for the second time. Disciple even checks a third time when it makes you gain a copy. The latter should go into the Wiki, I guess, as it is not obvious even if it is consistent with the former.

For reference, the Disciple card text: You may play an Action card from your hand twice. Gain a copy of it.
So "it" doesn't mean "the action card you selected from your hand" but "the card that the action card you selected from your hand happens to be after you have played it twice".

« on: May 23, 2016, 12:17:03 pm »
I see how this is somehow consistent with the TR-BoM ruling (saying that you cannot chose a different card for the second play). I just fail to see how that ruling is intuitive. Wouldn't it be much simpler if TR locked in the BoM, before it changes to something else? I guess there might be other problems if it was ruled that simple, so I will check the old threads to see if there is an explanation.

Back to topic:  ;)
I'm still not sure I understand why "Gain a copy of it." does not refer to the card that I played (a BoM) but to the card that is now in play (which BoM pretends to be).
Am I correct to assume that if I play Disciple on BoM as Feast, I gain a BoM because Feast isn't in play anymore (but a BoM in the trash) when the gain effect triggers?

Rules Questions / Disciple on Band of Misfits
« on: May 22, 2016, 04:25:55 pm »
Today, I learned that MF has decided that when you play Disciple to play a Band of Misfits twice, you gain a copy of the card that BoM pretended to be, not a copy of BoM.
Is this correct, and if yes, why? (I'm a little bit afraid we're in blue dog territory there...)

Dominion Online at Shuffle iT / Re: "Features" threads
« on: April 30, 2016, 02:56:22 pm »
Maybe I'm not sufficiently receptive for colors. I would like to have "trash"/"discard" look really different from "play", i.e. not only a differently colored border.

Dominion Online at Shuffle iT / Re: "Features" threads

Back to topic:
My most wanted feature is the big red cross across a card to be trashed by Jack or discarded by Hamlet (as suggested by Donald) - or an undo option for situations like this.
I admit there are really horrible things in the MF UI, e.g. the Scheme interface, but these haven't affected me as often as stupid misclicks trashing/discarding my next action to be played.
The online version does certainly have many advantages over IRL play, but it should also avoid to add pitfalls which could never happen IRL.
