Welcome to Gauntlet of Fools V!
I really wanted to play more Gauntlet of Fools after III wrapped up, but then I didn't show up in time to signup for GoFIV (silly me not checking into the forum often enough). So I have started this expressly for the purpose of finding 5 other people to play Gauntlet of Fools with. It's pretty low stress so you can probably handle it.
I'll be the moderator and die roller for everyone because well there is no other way to roll dice here. (By roll dice I mean generate numbers on random.org). Though I am a moderator I am also a player. I promise I won't cheat, but you can joke about me cheating when I inevitably beat you.* Feel free to chat in the thread, talk like your character whatever you want!
Rules
1. No outside communication.
2. I will try to resolve at least one encounter for everyone each day so because of that, if you wish to use an ability you have 12 hours from when I post the encounter to use any "before rolling" abilities and 12 hours after I post results for after rolling abilities. If you do not wish to use an ability I request you post No ability uses. If everyone gets their actions in before deadline the game will happen at a faster pace.
3. Please bold your instructions if you happen to have a choice to make. That way it's clear what your intentions are. For example "Gutnis strikes at the Gopher with his mighty axe. Using a weapon token."
3. IF I post an encounter on the weekends, the timer for abilities will not start till the Monday after

Boasting.
When the game starts the post below will show the character/weapon combinations available. Here's how we'll do boasting. Let's use players Alice, Bob, and Carol
Alice goes first
Alice decides to take the ninja with a bow, she declares this along with any boasts she wishes to add (she does not have to)
Next Bob decides to take either a different hero or the ninja, if he takes the ninja he MUST add a boast. Boasting continues till all have a hero.
Example
Alice takes ninja with a bow without breakfast
Bob takes ninja with a bow without breakfast, and hopping on one foot
CAROL takes Priest with a staff
Alice takes Priest with a staff, with a hang over
Carol takes Barbarian with a dagger.
NOTE: Each hero can only have 1 of each type of boast
Combat. Once the Encounter is up before rolls are posted.
Use Weapon Token and Use Class Token are the respective ways to use your ability
Combat. After rolls are posted

The Boasts
While Juggling - After rolling subtract 1 from the total, Start with half as many weapon tokens as normal
With a Hangover - Roll 1 Less Die, -4 Defense, Discard this boast when you Kill your first Monster
One Arm Tied Behind Back - Any die's showing 1 and 2 are ignored treating them as 0's
Blindfolded - If you both kill & dodge the monster score 1 less gold.
Hopping on One Leg - -2 Defense
Without Breakfast - Start with 1 wound.

And yeah, I expressly did not play my own game with IV, recognizing the demand to play. ;D I've no problems with the mod playing however, as evidenced in GoF-III, where
even with cheating I lost legitimately.

I was kinda hoping Insomniac would start another one, but then I thought if I really wanted to play I could just do it myself. So here we are.

TBH I'm holding off on modding everything right now I've been overwhelemed with RL and modding lately. so I want to hold off till things are more reasonable

I've been slowing down my overall game count as well. In the range of 5 active games (mod or player) is a good spot for me. When I start having to keep an active file (yes, it got that bad) to remind me and keep track - I'm in too many.

((This actually puts me at 7, but that includes CE, which isn't running currently. And this along with Witch's Brew are low maintenance. Morgrim's BM is also on break, and very not serious when it's not. Overall, that leaves me atgood balance, I think))

When rolling when facing a monster, assuming no tokens are used, it works like this:
(using Banshee from GoF:1)
Encounter is a Banshee!
Attack: 23
Defense: 16
Penalty if hit: 1 Wound OR -3 Defense for the rest of the game
Reward for killing: 4 Gold
To kill the monster: I have to roll higher than its defense?
To dodge the monster's attack: I have to roll higher than the Monster's attack subtracted from my defense?
If I kill it: I get 4 Gold
If I don't: I get nothing
If I get hit: I suffer the penalty of 1 Wound OR -3 Defense for the rest of the game
If I don't get hit: Nothing happens
When exactly do you die? Is it when a certain number of wounds are taken, or when your defense is 0? Or both?

No, you have to roll equal to or higher than it's defense. Ties always go to the attacker.
To dodge the monster's attack: I have to roll higher than the Monster's attack subtracted from my defense?
There's no rolling. If your Defense is higher than its Attack then hooray, you're safe. If it's equal or lower than you take your penalty.
If I kill it: I get 4 Gold
If I don't: I get nothing

None of the forum games really require you to have bought the game. Though the forum game may cause you to buy the game.
It's kind of a nice exposure to various games now....as long as the game lends itself to forum format.

Many stores are not yet even carrying it, so obtaining a copy is not always the easiest. However, you should absolutely feel free to join in any game here in the forum games community. Hopefully playing them here will inspire you to purchase them in the future!

To further build onto Galzria's point, think of these forum games as walking into a gaming store and seeing a game being played. You don't need a copy of Dominion to play with someone else's set. Same thing here. Of course, if someone were to mod a Magic game, that'd be different.

The heroes awaken, some earlier than others, and make their way to the cave with a crumbling wooden sign declaring itself to be "The Gauntle". It's a little rotted. This is going to be a cakewalk they brag to each other. They step into the entrance.
"Halt!" someone a growly voice says from within the entrance.
The adventurers eagerly walk in to see who would stop them from entering the Gauntlet. As they step in they realize the voice came from a man holding a dog on the leash.
"Who are you?" said the Wero the Great, who was the most awake and least distracted of the heroes.
"I am the Keeper of the Gauntlet, and this is my pet Fido," he shouts. "Fido, get them!"
"Real original name," everyone thinks, but that dog does look fierce.
First Encounter:

Juggling with one hand and tying your other hand behind your back sure makes fighting monsters difficult. Galzria's boasts seem to be getting the better at him as he can't focus on fighting the hellhound enough to even toss a juggling ball at it. Luckily he's wearing enough armour that the hellhound's jaws can't get through to hurt him while the rest of the group work together to take the creature town. The jaws can't get through his armour, but his hangover is just splitting so much so that Galzria loses focus and drops his Flaming Sword on his own foot. Ouch! Frisk takes the brunt of the attack and everyone agrees he should get a little extra share of the reward. The creature's owner flees further into the Gauntlet shouting:
"This isn't over! It's only just begun!"

Let me know if you see any errors. If anyone who hasn't mentioned that they want to take a wound for the +3 gold wants to do it still they should let me know before I post an encounter tonight.

Everyone high fives each other and dust themselves off, and proceed to walk (or hop) further into the Gauntlet.

"To show you my other dog! This is my pet Rover," he shouts. "Rover, get them!"

"No!" shouts the Keeper. "This dog is less impressive than Fido, so it's totally different!"
Rover does look smaller than Fido, but he could probably still bite you if you were distracted by a hangover.

The group of adventurers make short work of Rover, the Wolf. Galzria's flaming sword shoots gouts of fire catching him in its flame as he tosses his sword perfectly landing on Rover and running him through. He picks up the corpse laughing and tosses the corpse into the air juggling it. The fire from the sword however spreads to the wolf corpse and Galzria burns his hand.
With a curse he tosses the flaming corpse aside where it lands on Insomniac. "Thanks a lot," says the singed thief from underneath the corpse.
The group turns to face the Keeper only to find that he's run off further into the Gauntlet. "Well we'd better go after him," says werothegreat, as the Artificer puts sharp bits of the wolf into his sling pouch. Gruesome, but we'd better press on.
Any corrections needed? I think all post encounter class/weapon actions have already been resolved.

"Hello my little adventurers!" screams the voice of the Keeper out of the darkness. "You've defeated my dogs, but they were just a distraction."
Silence follows him as the adventurer's wait for something to happen. "Well I'm going to have a sip from this conveniently placed glass of water," said Jorbles. He sips it and puts it down.
Suddenly there's a boom, and the water in the glass ripples. It's just like the play Jurassic Park that was put on at the tavern last week. You all fondly remember when the players put a glass of water down on the fake cart and then someone under the stage hits the bottom of the stage to make it shake. It was very scary and dramatic. It raised tension. Much like the water in the glass being vibrated by the steps of something gigantic entering the room.
The cave shudders as a Behemoth approaches you. Uh oh.

Jorbles and Archetype duck into the hallway behind the behemoth leaving the other 4 adventurers to their fates.
"Cowards," shouts Captain_Frisk as he goes absolutely berserk. He rains blows down on the behemoth. The behemoth momentarily taken aback stumbles back, then as Frisk goes in for the kill rallies and it's mighty limb comes forward batting Frisk aside into a wall.
Insomniac rushes forward attempting to distract the behemoth. It works. A mighty fist crumples down where Insomniac stood. No one sees his fate (that is until he tells us whether he uses tokens or not.) Galzria and wero are all that stand between the behemoth and the doom of the group. Wero reaches into his Artificer's sack and pulls out a lucky stone. Whirling his sling he fires it into the Behemoth's eye. The creature shouts with rage and stumbles back. Galzria takes the opportunity to leap onto it and stab it through the chest with his flaming sword killing it. The behemoth falls forward and Galzria falls beneath it's body.
"A little help here please," Galzria shouts from beneath its corpse. "I'm stuck here!"

Archetype and Jorbles walk back into the room holding cups of tea.
"Hey you guys, are you coming or what? The Keeper made us some tea while we waited, but we don't have all day," said Archetype.
"Yeah, we've been sitting in this room drinking tea with him, for awhile now, but he's kinda creeping me out," adds Jorbles. "He keeps talking about how hot his Canadian girlfriend is. I've never even heard of that place, so I think she's made up."
"Yeah, he's pretty weird, and his mushroom man butler is kinda clumsy," Archetype said. "He spilled tea everywhere." He whispers this, but not very quietly.
"I can still hear you," shouts the Keeper from the next room in the Gauntlet, where you can now see he sits with a tea set and a man shaped like a mushroom dressed in a butler's suit. "Mushy, my wonderful butler. Throw out these rude guests!"

Mushy the Butler lurches forward, and everyone proceeds to pile hits onto him. He bursts into a puff of poisonous fungus spores, which those too close to him breath in taking some extra pain. They make short work of him though. Unsurprisingly while they were distracted by his butler the Keeper disappeared, but he left out the tea set, and look there's little sandwiches!
Jorbles scarfs one down eagerly. "He wouldn't let us eat before. He'd only give us tea." Mmmm it's good.
Everyone, but Insomniac, sits down to eat. Insomniac inspects the sandwiches and sniffs. "These still have the crusts on. I only eat sandwiches with the crusts cut off." Everyone, but Insomniac feels much better after eating. Insomniac waits impatiently.

After eating everyone moves further into the Gauntlet. They walk until they find the Keeper standing at a raised podium.
"Hey Keeper, what's up? You giving a speech or something?" asks Captain_Frisk. "Where's the next monster?"
"Before I bring out the next monster I wanted to tell you adventurer's a story. Please sit down while I do so."
Everyone is kindof impatient to get on with things, but they agree to listen. They put their gear down and sit.
"When I was a young man I was like you. I entered the Gauntlet full of spit and vinegar. I thought I would get through it with no problem, but the monsters were mean to me. There was no Keeper than. They attacked and bullied me."
"Ughhhhh, this is so boring," whispered Galzria to Insomniac. "Can I borrow a gold? I just need one more to pay off my tab from last night."
"What? No, go kill something else and get some more gold," Insomniac whispered back.
"Please come on, is it back there with your stuff? I'll just go get it."
Meanwhile the Keeper had continued obliviously. "...so then I fought a Troll, but it made fun of me mercilessly before I killed it. Though I beat it, my feelings were deeply hurt." His eyes teared up.
Galzria snuck back to everyone's equipment only to find a Pixie rifling through it.
"Hey we're being robbed!" shouted Galzria.
"What?! You were supposed to be paying attention to my speech! So that Pixie could rob... I mean ummm... Wasn't it engrossing?" said the Keeper.
"No!" shouted everyone.
I guess you better kill the Pixie before it makes off with your Gold.

The group quickly rushes to defend their goods. They make short work of the pixies, and though Frisk lost a bit of gold Galzria and Insomniac found a bit of gold on the corpses of the robber pixies. Frisk claims it is his gold, but everyone points out the cardinal rule "Finders Keepers" and he grumbles, but gives up.

A serious fight ensues and everyone works together to take out the Giant Spider. After the dust settles everyone looks around.
"You guys all okay," asks Jorbles.
"I'm fine," says Insomniac.
"Me too," adds Archetype.
"And me," says werothegreat.
"Yep, it's all good," said Frisk.
"No problems here," said Galzria.
"Wait none of us got bitten?" Jorbles asks incredulously.
"Welllllll, I mean yeah it bit me, but it's just a spider bite. I'm sure I'm fine," scoffed werothegreat. Everyone, but Insomniac and Jorbles had been bitten by the spider, but everyone claimed to be fine, so on they went.

The Vampire smelling blood goes into a frenzy ripping through Insomniac, Archetype, Captain_Frisk and Galzria. Jorbles runs forward to face it his bo twirling, but is unable to get past it's defenses. Luckily he distracts it just long enough for werothegreat to load a clove of garlic into his sling and toss is at the undead killing machine.
"Blah," shouts the vampire. "This is not blood!" It collapses.
