I don't actually speak German, so I don't know if this is a good example, but: is there a difference between an englische Lektion and an Englischlektion? If so, that's the same thing as what I'm talking about for English.
I think there is a difference, like in english. "englische Lektion" means a lesson, that is tought in english language, so you can put a word between like "Mathe" which would be a math(-)lesson, in english language. But "Englischlektion" is a lesson in the subject english, so you can just put a word in front of it.

Yeah, so English is basically the same in that respect. And that's why you can have a private English lesson, not an English private lesson.

Also, even though it doesn't apply in this specific case, in English you have to use adjectives in a certain order.

You can see an explanation here (not sure if it's the best one, but it's a start).

Yeah people let's get back to the thread topic.

If I am privately teaching someone how to apply spin to a cue ball, and I'm teaching in English but their native language isn't, is that a private English English lesson, or an English private English lesson?

Further extension: what if the person I'm teaching is a recent army recruit, and what if I'm specifically teaching them to decrease the amount of spin they apply?

In cue sports, "english" is another term for side-spin.

Army recruits are called "privates".

Well, that is quite a good joke now that it has been explained. It's especially nice because it was so subtle at first, insuring that it would be explained eventually.

What if the private in an Englishman? is it:

"English English private English lessen private lesson"?

or maybe just

"English private English lessen private lesson in English"?

But the private's native language isn't English... otherwise you wouldn't specify that it is in English. I suppose you could be an Englishman without having English as your native language...

What if he's an English private that doesn't speak English and is also a bit of a recluse, always keeping to himself?

That one really doesn't make sense without punctuation though.  The buffalo sentence does, though it takes a while to think through (especially if unfamiliar with it).

Now punctuate it in two ways for two unique meanings.
