So I was figuring out where to post this and I decided a new thread would be nice.

I just recently achieved Gold V in league of legends after about 100 ranked games.

As the topic says, this is an AMA, it is meant to be league related but it doesn't have to be exclusive to that.

1 Minion. It isn't very strong alone, you need either disappearing coins or draw-to-X in addition to your Minion to make it strong.

Technically it doesn't.  Both want to fight the turret sized minion since Anivia's AoE spells don't damage turrets

I have played for 45 different champions, I have wins with 21 different champions  and I have more than 5 games played with only 4 champions.

League of legends is an online video game where you play a 5v5 match and try to kill you enemies and overtake their base. Every match you start at level one and gain experience and gold as you kill the 5 enemies and minions(small computer enemies) this allows you to buy items to be stronger and eventually destroy the towers guarding the enemy base and the base itself.

Ranked play means your wins and losses are recorded and used to move you up or down on the ranked ladder. There are 5 divisions(bronze, silver, gold, platinum, diamond) and 5 tiers in each division(V,IV,III,II,I) being in Gold V means out of the 30 million active players I am in the top 8.9%

100 games to get there is pretty good, personally I believe I am better than my current rank so I think I would like to have gotten to Gold faster. Last season I got to gold rank in about 2 weeks and 30 games, winning 20 of them. Currently sitting at 66 wins and 44 losses means my ratio is not where I want it to be.

If you know DotA, it's based on that.
It's differen't from a PVP arena in WoW mainly because there (I think so at least) you level up and equip your character, then go play matches with him. In DotA/LoL, everyone starts at Level 1 and with hardly any equipment. Making your character level up is part of every single match, and hindering your opponents in their development is really important.

Not sure about LOL, DotA is usually 30-60 minutes. I don't think LOL is much different.

Exactly what watno said, the main difference is that every single game is a completely fresh start.

As your rank moves it matches you against people of equivalent rank so that you should eventually reach your "real" rank and no longer move as you will win and lose 50/50. That's why number of games matters. Someone at gold 5 with 1000 games is not likely to move.

However this is effected by the fact that there are 116 different "champions" to play as, and the game developers actively "balance" champions and release new ones. So adaptability and game knowledge are just as important as skill.

League matches are about the same. 35-45 min is probably the average, though I have played lots of 18-20 min games as well as some 70 and 80 min games. You can surrender any time after 20 min

Their are 580 abilities and probably 100 items, balance is not an attainable idea. In reality they are constantly molding the game to be slightly different which keeps it fresh and interesting.

Also I think it solves the fact that in a game that is rooted in numbers(damage), one could technically figure out the best champion or team for the largest number of scenarios ect.

With all the champions, it's kinda like Dominion.  You've got 10 different champions in a game (like 10 Kingdom cards in Dominion) and some champions have great synergy together like Zac and Orianna (Goons/Watchtower in Dominion).  I think this is part of the appeal and is a defining feature of what keeps games like LoL and Dominion popular for extended periods of time.  Neat combinations and variability that isn't completely balanced, but is close to balanced to provide fun, variable play.
