My interpretation of the Infantry Captain is that I may choose the same figure twice. If that is the case

I agree you can. I saw that Guard captain coming, but didn't find a way to stop him. But that Assassin is really mean.

I'm not 100% sure about the next task "line dominance".
Do diagonal lines count?
Also the text is a big ambiguous!?

I would interpret it as 6+ pieces on a line through the center.

It's orthogonal lines that pass through any of the 9 center spaces. Note that you need to have 6 pieces more than your opponent on that line, so if you have 6 and I have 1, that's not enough.
