It's better written than most of Harry Potter...

I have nothing but good to say about Harry Potter for the first five books.  I'll concede that the last two get a bit ropey.

Eliezer tells a good yarn and I like most of what he writes, but there are some parts of HPMoR that seem a bit of a stretch, even in-universe.

Oh dear, I hadn't realized who the author is.  ISTR he was a bit of an insufferable douche, as most singularity-loving types are...

Didn't start reading it, but the premise reminds me of this.

I'm all caught up on HPMoR.  Found it back in the summer; I think it was actually linked somewhere here on f.ds.  I found it engrossing, though not necessarily all that rational.   I found the early chapters held more of the "rational" whereas the later chapters are more wrapped up in the wild, over-the-top plot.

I think the rational part would work much better in a Sherlock Holmes-style story.
