Welcome one and all to the pre-awards ceremony academy meeting!

Thanks to Theory/Robz888/Galzria for trusting me with this role as Forum Awards coordinator.  As your selected host, I promise I'll do better than James Franco at the Oscars.

I'm posting the planned categories for this year.  Post in this topic if you have commentary on the format of the categories themselves.  Future posts will outline the nomination process, which I expect will start in late November.

Also, please note, I scoured my own Game Index and previous awards to decide what games are eligible for this year's awards.

Game-based Categories:

Best "Normal" Game
Best "Non-Normal/Non-BM" Game
Best "Bastard/Drunk" Game
Best In-Game Moment


Player-based Categories:

Best Town Performance in a Single Game
Best Scum Performance in a Single Game
Best Townie
Best Scum
Best Newbie Performance
Player of the Year


Mod-based Categories:

Best Original Set-Up
Best Original Role
Best Flavor
Mod of the Year


A few notes:
--Normal games eligible for inclusion begin with Mafia XV (Switch).  Games that end before the nomination process begins will be eligible.
--"Non-Normal/Non-BM" means any game in the RMM, Blitz, or Newbie categories.
--RMM games eligible for inclusion begin with DoMafia I.  Games that end before the nomination process begins will be eligible.
--All Blitz and Newbie games are eligible this awards year.
--Bastard games eligible for inclusion begin with BMVII (Morgrim's game).  Games that end before the nomination process begin will be eligible.
--All game eligibility decisions were based on game end dates.
--Best Town/Scum Performance in a Single Game is just that.  Best Townie/Scum is based on the totality of performances over the year, and have a minimum of three games in either alignment.
--Games eligible for "Best Newbie Performance" include the first three games of any player's career during the awards year.
--Threads for each award will go into further depth when it comes to eligibility.

Topics for discussion include what awards may need to be included.

I selected/created 12 categories I thought would have plenty of competition.  Do we need more?

One I left out was "Best Original Role," for example.  I figure that's covered in Best Mod, though.

I think 'Best Role' could be included. 'Best Mod' to me says that they did the best in the whole orginization of the game to help make it run smoother (Vote Counts, answering questions, etc.)

I wish I had been in the game where you were lynched for that "slip". I would've berated anybody voting you over it. I've got 158 hidden Quicktopics. I've got another 38 active ones. Using code appropriate to QT's says absolutely nothing to me about a player's alignment. That's such a ridiculous "scumslip" argument to make.

The game where I was town, claimed Vig, was actually the cop (just remembered my PM wrong) and got lynched, basically off a counterclaim.

Should be eligible for Idiot Play of the YEaR, or something.

Maybe some more specific categories. A few off the top of my head:

- best use of role (NK, PR, scumPR, etc. Could even make separate categories for these)
- best scumhunter (could be overall, or single game)
- best setup

Best in-game moment -- the point in that BM game I did (I already forget the number, I am terrible) where people switched over to claiming Werewolf.  That was a hilarious day.

Town's actually been doing well lately, right?  2 wins in a row in normal games, wins in 2 of the last 3 RMM games, wins in the last 3 blitz games...  Probably should be 3 in a row for normal games, too!

It was just a month ago we were hearing, "Woe is town!" but they haven't done half bad lately.

I think it's just all the times someone had been in one of their first games.  Even though I've been around for a somewhat while, MXXI could still have me be in the "new" category because that was my first game.

That's right.  I'll be combing through all games to compile eligible nominees for each category that needs them.

I might suggest "most improved." This would obviously be a category only for players who were around last year and have improved their game play from ok to great or from great to awesome!

this is actually quite the process... I just attempted to do so and it wasn't an easy feat, I had to give up. I went through my spreadsheets and added dates to completed games, but mostly I think we just need to hand select the "best" candidates for the award rather than listing every new player in each game...

Although some are a bit hazy... such as does Jorbles qualify as a newbie in MXXII? It was only his second game, but he has been around since MX and hosted MIX...

Okay, I've updated the categories based on input from you all.  I think I'm set with what's there and won't be going any bigger -- it's a lot of work as it is.

I added a third category for games so I can include a few suggestions.  (Also in the OP)

I added Original Set-Up and Original Role.  I think best 3rd party is covered by scum and best use of role is covered until best performance in a game.  Most improved is too hard to calculate (you'd have to check how they played in last year's eligible games, then compare to this year, etc.).

I cannot explain what was going through my head when I was like "okay, I think I'm just gonna say it, I don't know why, but I feel like I'm not mafia..." Also having a claimed lover die and instead of killing me getting replaced by another lover made my lover claim really really weak. Then all the ww claims and I was like yes!

I would like to see a best use of role category, I think it is a lot different than best performance, I mean some using a crappy role to a really good effect might still not be as amazing of a performance as someone who just really really changed the tide of a game.
