Synergy: Feodum and Transmute

Hello Everyone,

In a recent game (It was played too poorly to be mentioned here) There was Transmute, Feodum and a Curser on board --  Since transmute turned out to be an option on this board it also worked out well with Feodum in order to get Silvers and Golds. I don't think that this is a Combo on its own, but in certain circumstances it seems a nice synergy. What do you think? Also I wonder if this could compete vanilla BM.....

I don't think it is very good at all, at least generally - I am buying potion (junk card), feodum (junk card), and transmute (junk card), so that IF the transmute collides with feodum (not likely in the general case), I can get 3 silver and a gold, still have two junk cards in deck. I imagine you are better just buying treasure.

Now, *can* it be okay? Sure, if you already have the potion, and you are building an engine which can accommodate the higher number of stop cards, and you have a spare buy where you don't need to get a different potion-cost card (this is a lot of ifs, but it can happen), then maybe it works out fine. I expect this to be rare.

Certainly I expect vanilla BM to outperform it in the general case.

It seems to me a bit comparable to the double treasure map thingy. I agree with WW, you would have to be very lucky to get these together and yes BM will probably beat you unless you get help. A trasher or warehouse of the likes (as with treasure map) can help you, but if you count it out ...
One trasher/warehouse turn, one potion turn, one transmute buy turn, one feodum turn, then hope for the best. I would estimate at least 7/8 turns before you get anywhere and you'll still have considerable junk in your deck. And in the end I believe a double treasure map is better since you get more gold.

well, dont forget that if it is an Estate game you can also transmute them.... And if you end up with an unfortunate 4 coin hand later you can go for one or two feodum. If there is a sifter you would want it any way I guess... and never forget about scout;)

Foedums are a potential combination with any card that can trash them. Watchtower seems one of the best.

A Salvager for the potion helps a bit.  I'm not sure Transmute is a "junk card", that seems kind of severe.  You definitely need a third thing going on though.

The problem is, you have salvager, why do you need transmute?

Ok, maybe we make it a Forge, but there's Sea Hags so we can't wait long enough to get to it.  But we could definitely Forge the Potion later.

I'm trying X(

Maybe Counterfeit would be interesting? A couple earlier Transmutes while ditching the potion, a thinner deck to collide Transmute with stuff, and Counterfeits for your bonus Silvers?

I don't think I've ever used Transmute in a single game honestly.

This is a combo I'd at least be willing to try in a game that's half-Alchemy and half-Dark Ages. Coincidentally, this is the only time I'd ever see this combo on the board.

I know I've pulled it off at least one other time, but can't find the link at the moment.

Apparently Transmute is not always terrible.  Its still a card I almost never buy.

if you haven't read http://dominionstrategy.com/2012/06/07/alchemy-transmute/ you may find it interesting.

There are few cards that are never ever useful.  Some are really terrible nearly all the time, e.g. transmute.
