This isn't really a new card... but, I've just been thinking.

How does Band of Misfits compare at other prices?  Obviously at $2 it would be horrible, but what about a $4 or $6 BoM?

In my opinion, $6 BoM would probably be way too powerful on most boards. The reason it works at five is that there's a big power gap between $4 and $5, so a card that's one of any weaker card on the board is comparable to the other $5 cost cards. But you frequently pick up $5 cost cards for $6 anyway- BoM being $6 wouldn't be much weaker than if BoM was $5 and said "play as any card of equal or lesser cost", which means that there's no reason to actually buy the $5 cost cards. Obviously it wouldn't be worth it on some boards but I think it would be overly strong.

How about $7 then? It probably wouldn't be better than King's Court, and I don't think it would be too weak; just a little boring.

At $6 or $7 BoM would be almost an auto-buy whenever you can afford it.

It might be interesting if you had several Band of Misfits in the same pile, all with the same text, but different prices, ordered in increasing order.

I agree that $6 BoM probably has too much potential to be crazy though.  I would guess that at $4 it's very weak, and at $3 it's terrible.  $7 might be reasonable.  It would be pretty much any card on the table, but $7 is expensive enough that it's probably okay.

It depends on the kingdom. If you have a cheap Village and Oracle, a $4 BoM could be crazy. Actually it's probably crazy with any $3 terminal and a Village on the board. And it's also very good in games with $3 trashing (or Chapel), especially if said trashing trashes from your hand. It would probably be good in Workshop/alt-VP rushes boards, too. And of course $4 BoM/$3 card is, edge cases aside, a strictly superior opening buy than a double $3. If you get to decide between playing a Woodcutter and a Chancellor, then it's pretty weak. Not getting to choose Throne Room, Remodel/Remake, Sea Hag or some other $4 situational cards is obviously a huge nerf, but they're not present in all BoM kingdoms anyway and decreasing the cost from $5 to $4 is a huge buff.

$6 BoMs would be too good.

A $1 or $2 Band of Misfits would have been a nice Ruins if the pile didn't empty. Would be good for trash for benefit cards too.

A $5P Band of Misfits could work as far as impersonating $5 cards goes.

Maybe this?

Quote
$4, $4,
$5, $5, $5, $5
$7, $7, $7, $7

Or maybe have the cost of the card depend on how many are left, for a Trade Route-esque progression?

As if BoM wasn't complicated enough rules-wise.

At $6 or $7 BoM would be almost an auto-buy whenever you can afford it.

At $6 you would buy it as likely as a Border Village, I think. That is you'd buy that instead of a $5 action, but still not an autobuy, because still sometimes you want that Gold instead.

There are exceptions of course. Real Minions could be better than Expensive Bands of Misfits, because the Minions will run out, for example.

Anyway I think the Expensive Band of Misfits should cost $7, since at $6 often the $5 actions will be gained so seldom which makes for less variety.
