The most important question about scout opening

So we all know, that scout opening is just funny. But real question here is if it is worse than nothing.
Do you think opening scout/- is better than -/-, copper/- or copper/copper. And to take it futher what about scout/scout? (We all know, that it is lovely ;) ) Better than copper/copper (saving coin), or copper/copper(using coin (for nothing))? :D

Council room isn't helping much here because who would seriously open -/-. Also it is obvious that scout can hurt your deck but (-) can't. copper/copper opening increase your avg coin per card to 0.75. But if scout doesn't hit any green it even decrease your coin per card density. So this is serious question after all!

Uh... Scout opening is certainly going to be better than Copper opening, or nothing opening, because it's usually going to grab some green cards and help your next shuffle, so one of your hands will be pretty decent, which is usually all you expect on the opening. It's probably not substantial boost, and occasionally it will be worse.

The big thing, of course, is just that a Silver opening blows it out of the water completely, and there's always Silver.

The other problem is that even if scout is better than copper *for this next shuffle*, that doesn't mean it will over the rest of the game. Well, okay, often it will, and silver is the bigger thing, yeah.

Scout/Baron with Baker's coin?
Play Scout, draw 3 Estates, next hand have a dead Baron. :)

Obviously not, because it's not much better than a cantrip (=nothing) when it hits and it doesn't always hit. Actually it's worse than a cantrip a lot of time even if it hits.

Dead? It's not dead! You probably have 4 Coppers with it, so you can play it, gain an Estate, then buy two Estates for your Scout to draw. That's synergy right there!

I feel like the term should be "a barren Baron".

Surely in that case you just wouldn't play Scout?

I'd think Scout Baron would be slightly better than Baron/Nothing, because it can turn a hand of Baron/Scout/C/C/C into one that has an estate. I'm too lazy to work out the probabilities of those occurring, but it seems non-negligible.

Of course, Baron/Silver and save the token would still probably be better.

Yes, Baron/Scout/C/C/C is better to draw than Baron/C/C/C/C. But if they don't collide, drawing scout without the baron is bad, because you can't play scout without risking stealing estates from the Baron hand. And two opening cards are more likely not to collide than they are to collide.

Baron/Scout is a great way to accelerate up to Stash!

In a Shelters game, "nothing" is very likely a better opening than Scout.
