Maybe.  There was once a really great extension for Tumblr called "missing e" (it hasn't been updated in ages).  At one point, Tumblr decided they didn't like it (without really giving a good reason why).  They were able to detect if users were using it.  Presumably, if they really wanted to, they could detect and then deny service to extension users.

Yeah, they probably could if they set their mind to it. I don't particularly want goko and nutki to get involved in an arms race though! Nobody wins that.

They could take the opposite tack and just say that if you're using the extension, it's your own damn fault that your extension is showing you porn, and if you don't like it, just stop using the extension and you're fine.

Let's be realistic, here. If the number of custom avatars are anything to go by, it's way less than half of their users.

They can make it a violation of their terms of service, sure. Actually enforcing that, I don't know how doable it is; presumably they could (by banning users who used it), but one doubts they would make they effort. Or really have the conviction.

I do think that they can't stop people from using that extension.  However, I haven't read their Terms & Services, but I imagine they CAN decline to give service to somebody who chooses to install that extension.  Different method, same effect.

Honestly though, many of the complaints about Goko seem to amount to laziness in their not bothering to code in things they might reasonably be expected to do.  Do you really think they'd go that far out of their way to make it so you can't play with the script running?  I can't really see it happening.

This is the internet. So disrespect toward women is somewhat inevitable, but objectifying women is alway immoral and in bad taste. My hope is the user with the picture will see these posts and willingly change it, but maybe I'm an idealist.

I was reading the ToS.  Here are some things that we've implicitly agreed to by using Goko services.

You agree that you won’t create an account or access the Service if you (i) are under the age of 13, (ii) are a convicted sex offender, (iii) if you have previously been denied by Goko use of or access to the Services or Websites, or (iv) you are located in a country embargoed by the United States or if you are on the U.S. Treasury Department's list of Specially Designated Nationals.

You agree that you will not use your account to engage in any illegal conduct. You are prohibited from posting on or transmitting through the Website or Services any partially or fully nude images of anyone, at any age, of any gender, including sexually suggestive images or words, unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, sexually explicit, profane, hateful, racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable material of any kind that infringes the intellectual property rights or is otherwise injurious to third parties, including but not limited to any material that encourages conduct that would constitute a criminal offense, give rise to civil liability or otherwise violate any applicable local, state, national or international law.

So apparently people under 13 shouldn't play Goko games.  That seems odd.  The last paragraph might even give Goko grounds to disallow their users from using the script extension at all.  If not at all, then at least if it is being used to "transmit partially or fully nude images".

I assume that browsers fall into the "authorized third-party" category.  Otherwise I'm going to get back to figuring out how smoke signals can access the internet.

The "unauthorized" phrasing allows Goko to set whatever they like as the limits depending on whether they "authorize" it or not. At the moment they definitely know about the extension and they haven't told anyone to take it down, so I suppose it's authorized for now. But if they change their mind, it'll be unauthorized and against the rules.

I imagine that the Goko staff has other things to do than pursue people who are using some third party browser extension. I'd actually be impressed if they did. That's the kind of vitality Goko needs to give online Dominion the glory it deserves.
