Combo Procession-Armory-Duchy-Rush

I was newly faced to an astonishing combo I couldn't beat, let's call it the "Procession-Armory-Duchy-Rush":

The kingdom was something like

2 Cellar
3 Ambassador
3 Oracle
4 Procession
4 Armory
4 Scavenger
5 Horn of Plenty
5 Festival

.. and two more cards I have forgotten. Let it be thief and scout, if you want so :)

My opponent went first and opened armory/silver, bought two processions on move 3/4 and played his armory on move 4, topdecking another armory.
I opened double ambassador, in move 3/4 i ambassadored two coppers and one estate, and i bought a silver on move 4.
On move 5, he played procession-armory, topdecked a procession and an armory, trashed his first armory into a duchy and bought an estate(!).
Seeing this, I figured out, that his plan was to repeat procession-armory->duchy, three-pile-ending the game before I got enough provinces ... and this is exactly what happened.
Now, I have three questions:

1) Was my double ambassador already a mistake?

2) What would you do in my position, confronted to procession-armory-duchy?

3) Is this combo really strong? At least, it is almost sure you can set it up within 5 to 7 moves, and it can hardly be stopped (minions, pillages and pin strategies put aside).

I'm pretty sure yyou can't do that. when you trash the card you processioned, you have to gain an ACTION card costing exactly one more.

Oh, interesting. Seems like there is a difference in the german game, which says "nimm Dir eine Karte" (in english: gain a card).

yes that is a print fault in the german cards.
I had the same problem too. played a procession on cultis and drew 7! cards and gained a gold.

this makes the german version of procession a "mythic" card, chased by IRL tournament players all over the world.... hey this is Dominion not Magic.

Truth is, Germans are just so much more efficient, even processions have more output than elsewhere in the world.

Reminds me of the good ol' kingdom with both Procession and Fortress. Too bad it only had action cards costing 2, 4, and 6.

It does seem strong if it worked. You can get it up at turn 5 at the earliest, and from there it needs at least 8 turns to 3 pile, more likely 9 (guaranteed if you start turn 5). So the game ends after 14 turns at the earliest. I think something like BM-smithy gets 4 provinces by that pint, right?
So this would certainly be competitive, but not broken i think.

Interesting three-pile idea, but you still need a way to get more VP before your opponent. Obviously, you can't gain Duchies, so something else needs to happen.

My brother tried to use this to get a good deck with a lot of $5 cost cards, but he had too many processions in the end and it was too slow.

This could maybe work with Bazaar or Bandit Camp and use the $ to buy green while you empty out those three piles.
